Solid Steel (26th July) DK opens the show this week with a heavy, heavy start with the new DJ Shadow remix of 'Eyesdontlie'  for Machinedrum, followed by a forthcoming track from dBridge & Skeptical on R & S and Kalbata vs Vybz Kartel. Then it's a dancehall classic from Johnny Osbourne over the Sleng Teng riddim and new music from H-SIK and Dawn Day Night splicing up Foster Sylvers, before unleashing the sublime gospel vocals of Pastor T.L. Barrett. We also hear a track from the new Ras G album on Brainfeeder,  music from our guest in Hour 2 Paul White, the soulful voice of Peven Everett and latin jazz from Roberto De La Barrera and the Alegre Allstars.

Solid Steel Radio Show 26/7/2013 Part 1 + 2 - DK

DK digs a little deeper into the vinyl vaults for the second half, starting with a boogie selection from Windy City, Universal Robot Band, Wickett and onto Buddy Miles, Don Thomas and two P & P classics from Queen Yahna and Florence. It's back to 1969 for killer Tropicalia from Brazilian legend Caetano Veloso, then Northern Soul at it's finest with Roy Roberts and a couple of funk 45's from The Touch and Backyard Heavies. We cross to Belgium for Placebo, Canada for electronic wizardry from L'Infonie and Czechoslovakia for Jazzrockova Dilna. David Axelrod crosses over with Charles Stepney's Rotary Connection,  followed by two modern soul classics from Michael Kiwanuka and Raphael Saadiq, before taking it down with Arnold Blair, The Prime Element, Gil Scott Heron and finishing with the sublime Irresistable Force mix of Autumn Leaves by Coldcut.

Solid Steel Radio Show 13/12/2013 Part 3 + 4 - DK

Solid Steel (13th December) It's another extended show this week as DK takes over proceedings with Part 2 of his Solid Steel retrospective mix. We kick off with a club selection from Dobie, Zed Bias & Mark Pritchard, LB, Grain and Airfrog on R & S from 2001. Then it's lush Techno from Space Continuum, Arthur Russell at the controls with Dinosaur L and Dan Snaith in his pre Caribou days as Manitoba. DK fav Cid Rim appears with his track Draw, plus Burial, two from Pearson Sound, Mouth from '82 and a DK retrospective wouldn't be complete without Herbie Hancock's Nobu from 1974, arguably the first ever Techno track. We continue through James Blake, Joy Orbison, Letherette, Eprom and The Brooklyn Allstars, before hitting classic jungle with Congo Natty and onto Drum & Bass from Ray Keith, Source Direct and Roni Size, and closing with reggae from Jah Screechy and Tenor Saw.

Solid Steel (17th January) DK steps up with his first mix of the year and it's a focus on new releases from the Ninja Tune family of labels including an exclusive from the forthcoming Illum Sphere album. First up it's the bonus track from the excellent Run the Jewels album featuring Q-Bert, followed by the Falty DL single 'Danger', Jessica Lauren from 2000 and Prime/Decent by Lee Bannon. Then it's African flavours both new and old, the recent Lone giveaway and the first play for 'Near the End' from the superb Illum Sphere album 'Ghosts of Then and Now', out on 10th Feb. Machinedrum gets the VIP treatment from Om Unit, followed by Actress, a Mr Scruff edit of Pusha T and more new music from Young Fathers on Big Dada and NameBrandSound on Technicolour. Solid Steel (28th March) In the latest instalment, DK has put together a mix unveiling some of the latest gems from the Ninja Tune family of labels. This includes an EXCLUSIVE play of Machinedrum’s stunning remix of 'Runnin’ by Kelis -  available on the special, indies-only, limited edition version of her album 'Food', alongside the other remixes in this show from Breach and Will Saul. 
Then it's the turn of Machinedrum to be remixed by Seafloor, two from NameBrandSound, the VIP mix of 'Hardcourage' from Falty DL, a track from the forthcoming Mr Scruff album 'Friendly Bacteria', Teebs, classic Roots Manuva and two more for Record Store Day, from Illum Sphere and a Psych classic from The Animated Egg, released alongside If Music.

His versatility is what drew me into electronic music in my youth and he has in my opinion one the most diverse bodies of work in recent electronic music history, through Moody Abstract Hip-Hop, Acid House, Disco, Drum & Bass and House. It's another spin for the huge Roots by Romare and classic deep house from 1995 from Marc Kinchen and Chez Damier under his Andthoney alias. 
Mix of the Year winner Clap! Clap! is remixed by Lurka Obeah, followed by a host of giveaways from Seven Davis Jr, Alex Patchwork, Photay and the Hudson Mohawke remix of Four Tet. In Hour 2 it's fellow Canadian Gene Tellem who released her debut EP “Who Says No” on Project Pablo’s label SOBO (Sounds Of Beaubien Ouest) last month. Her mix takes in music from Lola Allen, Sean Smith, LK, Morgun, DMX Krewcharles Trees and Bradford James. She told us;
"Mixes are a great way to give certain songs another life after seeing their effect in confined space. Often those will be put aside to be rediscovered later on. A mix is also a great way to introduce new pieces that i’m excited about, in hopes to create some familiarity for them with the listener that may find themselves hearing it out in the clubs and dance parties of the world."

Solid Steel (8th December) We're delighted to welcome an extended set from Jayda G who has been lighting up dancefloors with her music selection plus her passion and enthusiasm. The Canadian producer and DJ shares her time between Vancouver and Berlin, in between running her label Freakout Cult with DJ Fett Burger, which released her 10" Monroe Bumpa / 186 Haylin' alongside Laylay in the summer, followed by a Rudow 12" in September. She had this to say about her mix;

Solid Steel (5th January) In Hour 1 we welcome Tee Mango, the alter ego of Millionhands head honcho Tom Mangan. Tee releases records on his own Millionhands imprint, as well as on AUS, Clone Royal Oak & Local Talk. His first album IMPERFECTIONS VOL. 1 - made several end of year lists in 2016 and a cracking remix of The Invisible ft Connan Mockasin followed. His follow up album is in the works with more samples and a host of live instrumentation, and even some vocals from Tee himself. He told us;
"This mix was recorded live on CDJs and a trusty old 1210 in one take. My goal was to make something that i could happily listen to in a few years and still enjoy. Selfish, but true :) I've included records that make me smile, as opposed to make me look cool. There's a few new things and a selection of old goodies in there too. The mixing is not faultless, but that's OK i think. Hope you like it."

In Hour 2 it's Los Angeles based Alpha Pup Records who have served as a record label and distribution network for over a decade now, bridging gaps between a multitude of genres and lifestyles. Venturing into 2018 and the label and its distribution components have expanded greatly since the beginning. Solid Steel (22nd February) DK starts with a few current gems leading with the huge Romare track 'Your love', new music from Ty and the stunning single from James Blake, plus Machinedrum remixing Guilty Simpson and a classic Donald Byrd production for The Blackbyrds.
Then we welcome Joe Acheson (aka Hidden Orchestra) with his latest mix celebrating the release of the single 'Fourth Wall' from the  'Archipelago' album on Tru Thoughts. Like previous mixes it features all the variety of music that Joe has been listening to in the last year or so, much of which he has added to, mashed up or remixed, with lots of spoken word and field recordings. One of the themes is sleep, or the lack of it - and there's a strong theme of imagined live collaborations - Kelpe with Thom Yorke, Ivor Cutler and Johnny Cash trading verses over Jan Johansson's piano with added beats, Four Tet and Neil Cowley, Steve Reich with vocals from John Lennon and Finsta Bundy…
