An Irish-tinged tune about the Lindisfarne Gospels to reflect the Irish foundations of the community despite the later Romanisation of the Celtic church. 

The track title comes from me thinking about it being a beacon of civilisation, a rallying point, during the Early Middle Ages whist a far chunk of the UK was under Viking rule and Christianity had again been pushed to the margins of the UK.

Background
The Lindisfarne Gospels is an illuminated manuscript gospel book probably produced around the years 715-720 in the monastery at Lindisfarne, off the coast of Northumberland, which is now in the British Library in London. The manuscript is one of the finest works in the unique style of Hiberno-Saxon or Insular art, combining Mediterranean, Anglo-Saxon and Celtic elements.

The Lindisfarne Gospels are presumed to be the work of a monk named Eadfrith, who became Bishop of Lindisfarne in 698 and died in 721 AD

With The North Shore I hope to give a feel of that 'magical interface' between land and sea, a place apart from the hustle and bustle of life where your soul can find peace for a while. A natural world full of wonder for those with the time and inclination to see.

Background
The 'semi-hidden' North Shore of Lindisfarne is driven past by tourists every day, eager to see the 'sites' of the Island in their race against time before the tide cuts them off from the mainland. It is part of the Lindisfarne Natural Nature Reserve and its shifting sands and tides combine to create the 3500 hectares of dunes, saltmarsh and mudflats of the Reserve, home to a fascinating array of birdlife, seals, rare orchids and other wildlife. To experience it you need to spend time on the island, either by choosing to be cut off by an early tide or ideally stay on the island for a while.

This is a new 2020 version of my older piece 'Rondo for TIE Fighters' - written as a kind of tongue-in-cheek homage to Scherzo for X-Wings (of which I have a mock-up of available on my feed).

This has been reworked from the ground up with new brass (Junkie XL Brass), new orchestration, new mix, everything. Only the notes are the same...well most of them.

Whether you live or die depends on your pigmentation
Past echoes scream loud memories of the plantation

A packet of sweets in his pocket mistaken for a weapon
The cop relieves his guilt with a church confession

His children grab his cold hands, the rest of their lives will taste sour

Across the globe fundamentalists kill and abuse those of different persuasions
Anger is swallowed and hate spewed even by the youngest of generations
His first victims were a family on their way to their place of worship

“Get over it”, “it was a long time ago” until shots were fired inside the synagogue
Too white to be called a terrorist, in the oppression machine he’s a functioning cog

"just a boy from the favela" they told him his whole life
used all his breaths to change world, they hang on to their spite
Sell borders so you believe your confinement is the best
The Earth contains only two countries, the rich and all the rest
One well-acquainted with violence, starvation and danger
The other to empathy, kindness and generosity, a stranger

This track was pretty emotional, as i pictured The King walking into the no mans land after the defeat as first half builds up, and then we see king meeting every kinghts/warriors. 
My main focus was not to give king petty theme while still holding the weight of the kings presence and also his poistion even after the defeat. 
And I ev also added thunder to make it a bit dramatic !!! 
( I have hummed in the build up section)

++++. PROFILE NOTES ++++

Once a wannabe, not yet a has been.

It had been over a decade since I put together a song,
and for that matter basically walked away from music altogether.
Losing hope that I would ever have the time to put into music again,
I finally gave away my 3rd music studio.
I ran across SoundCloud around 2013,
and thought I might take what few songs I had recorded, 
and lay them to rest there.
And there they languished.

HOWEVER, around 2017 I went back to SoundCloud
and began listening a little more and a little more,
and actively taking a part in visiting the sites
of so many wonderful musicians and beautiful songs.
Also, more and more often I would discover that these artists
were blossoming everywhere around the world,
and most definitely worthy of high praise and compliments.

Then suddenly, these old dead soundtracks right here
began to have a bit of life breathed back into them.
From the kind words that began to come trickling in,
I thought, maybe, someday I might give this music thing a try again.

The thing that finally pushed me into action
was a particular SoundCloud artist…Sander Heerings,

Not only was he encouraging,
but he began faithfully responding to a few questions,
then a barrage of them.

The final result seemed to be that after a couple of months,
the Old Grinder now has a 4th studio and, finally, a new song.
I hope there may be many more to come.

Thank you Sander, and to the multitude that have dropped in
to listen to these old songs, 
and most of all, for perking up my spirits.
