'Sacred Riddims' is an ecstatic-dance journey which includes devotional, melodic and tribal music from all over the world.

I am touched and grateful to witness how more and more people are called to join us, attend the whole journey, dance to music from all over the world, and later share so honestly about their experience.

I'm inspired to keep digging for musical treasures, make music, hold space and play at my event and around the world.

- My new remix of a sweet brazilian song from 1973 -  'Iansa Mae Virgem' by Os Tincoas, who sing about the goddess of winds, lightning, and violent storms, death and rebirth
- A Bass /Hip-Hop version of Marvin Gaye's 'I Heard it through the grapevine'

So to celebrate the Jewish holiday of "Purim" where it's traditional to put on customs and party till oblivion, I played a special edition of Ecstatic Dance focused on Brazilian and some Afro-Latin music.

Highlights:

*Tropical* Ecstatic Dance 19.04.22 Israel

I was invited to play a morning set at an underground nature party.

I started with some gentle Brazilian vibes, progressed into amapiano and african deep house, peaked with some moments of tribal and techno, and finished with one of my favorite songs ever, a remix of Miriam Makeba, the queen of African music.

This is electronic music with lots of soulful human voices, organic instruments and authentic melodies. 

I also played my own remix of "Abantu", and was excited to witness how well it worked on the dance floor. Here it is as a free download:

After many years dancing at ecstatic dance around Amsterdam, I am grateful and excited to return and DJ for my fellow dancers.

Odessa is a boat moored on the eastern side of central Amsterdam. The cosy dance floor is on the lower deck, partly below water level, and there are also upper decks you can dance on or jump into the river.

Nowananda @ ED Odessa Amsterdam 03.08.22

Every journey I play is personal, and this is one of the most personal and meaningful journeys i have ever created.

The music sings for itself, but if you're curious, read on....

I've played in Berlin a few times in the past, but this time I felt called to create a more personal journey.

When I was young, i became aware of the public discussion around the issue of playing Richard Wagner in Israel, because Wagner was a "fanatical anti-semite" and his music was used by the Nazi regime. 

I felt then and feel now that his music stands by its own merit. There's also a meaning in the fact that a Jewish-Israeli DJ is choosing to play Wagner in Berlin out of his own will.

I've included excerpts from Wings of Desire (Der Himmel über Berlin), the 1987 film by Win Wenders, which has inspired me deeply since i watched it in the late 80s and throughout my life. 

I've also included both Israeli and contemporary German musicians, along with African, Brazilian, and other world music artists.


Gratitude to Bhavya Theissen for inviting me, Avram the soundman, Pascal de Lacaze and Esta Polyesta for their support, Christina Dohr who held the warm up workshop, Annika Bunt and Leopold Hutter for opening their homes and their hearts, Katharina Harnack, the team and all the dancers (we had over 100 !) who responded so beautifully to what I played.

Nowananda ~ Ecstatic Dance Berlin 21.08.22

Blessed to be on a winter tour combining DJing, new and old friends, yummy local food, wild nature hiking, old picturesque villages, and bathing in cold rivers.

I am grateful that Sophie, the organizer, was open to me holding the entire event - Opening circle, movement class, DJ set, music meditation, and closing circle.
This makes the music journey more meaningful, and the evening more homogenous and flowing. 

This dance journey followed a Dansual class that I facilitated.
Dansual is an intuitive and improvised partnered-dance style, inspired by many dance forms, Tantra and yoga. Thus some of the music was conducive to dance together.

Deep Gratitude to Sophie Auber, the team, Stephane the bread man, Katharina, Melanie, and the amazing dancers that showed up in droves for one of the most packed evenings of this event.

One of the special moments in this evening was at the end, when many of the dancers joined the beautiful chorus and kept singing while we gathered in the closing circle.

One of my favorite aspects of ecstatic dance is the organic and melodic pieces.

I wasn't sure how the people were going to respond, since they are so used to electronic music at ecstatic dance, but they really loved it.

Soulection is a radio show and music label which is a cornerstone of creativity for innovative musicians, crate-digging DJs, and open-minded fans from across the world.

I played this set at the "AFRICAN PARTY" that i organize in Koh PhaNgan, Thailand.

I've been working for a whole month on creating a new line of parties on Koh PhaNgan, Thailand.

There was so much boring admin work, challenges, paid ads that didn't function, driving around, errands, computer and mobile phone work, and other challenging stuff.

During the first 2 parties we had very few people. 

Can you imagine working for a whole week just to have 15 people at the event for a few minutes and the rest of the evening is nearly empty?

After every event, I was disappointed, confused, frustrated, sad, triggered, and exhausted.

I nearly quit every week!

...But i kept going on, fueled by my love of this art, and my mission to bring this music, culture and different vibe to Koh Phangan.

And last Saturday, finally, it all came together 🔥🔥🔥 Tons of gorgeous people came and nearly filled up the beautiful "Love Space" venue, and many stayed the whole evening until we finally had to close at half past midnight.

Inspired by the amazing DJs i've learned from, I played a very dynamic set, cutting directly to the best parts of songs and changing songs every two minutes or even faster.

This kind of DJing is challenging, it's stressful, it demands me to be working non-stop, but playing the best parts is my gift to the audience, and it makes me improve professionally and artistically. 

I usually prepare most of the sequence for my Ecstatic Dance events, but at this African Party it was all improvised in the moment - I played my favorite songs and responded to the audience, making sure I include a wide range of genres, styles, riddims and feelings. 

After some time, i relaxed into it and the whole evening flowed so naturally.

I was deeply inspired by Nataniel Olusanya aka S!rene From the Netherlands - I listened to tons of his  DJ sets and included a few of his songs and a simple version of his "gal costa vs Timberlake" routine. Enjoy him at:

This was a "Snake Charmer" edition of Ecstatic Dance I held in Koh PhaNgan Thailand and it was the first public dance event since covid19.

At these special events I play a music journey with more soft, slow, sensual, sacred and shamanic tracks, as well as some upbeat tribal ones.

This time we didn't get to the tribal tracks... ;-)

Another dream came true as I played the Sunday noon set at Pyramid Yoga, the biggest Ecstatic Dance venue and event in Koh PhaNgan, where i've been dancing and living for many years.

I was so happy to see the people dance, jump, and shout to the wide-ranging journey of beats-infused world music I played.

A few highlights:
- Beats and Bass-infused vocals and music from Native-american, New-Zealand Mauri, Russian,  Tibetan, Amazonian, Aboriginal Australian, Indian, Turkish, Brazilian, Balkan,  and LOTS of African
- A traditional African acapella, an upbeat electronic remix of it, and samples that return many times during the whole journey
- A few other vocal and melodic African songs
- My newest track, a tribal remix of "Stone gods of Bimini", by Ixtahuele

I'm inspired by growing up in a multi-cultural family, playing classical piano for 7 years, life-long dancing and music-collecting, 20 years of traveling, and an extensive study, practice, and teaching of tantric yoga, personal development and conscious business.

I weave traditional, popular, organic and electronic music from cultures and ethnic groups around the world into dance journeys that invoke the mystic, the lover and the animal within us.
