Timeline Music July '21

After a 1-year hiatus, the Avenue Red 1210 podcast series has a fresh installment of 12 records, each one being 10+ years old. Stepping up to the platters we have Moutier, a veteran DJ duo from Leeds who have in recent years also turned their hands to being producers and label owners. In 2017 they launched their Enclave Records imprint, which alongside their own works has featured an illustrious roster of talent, including Harrison BDP, Javonntte, Kresy, BioRoot and Niklas Andersson among others.

No strangers to the origins of true deep house, these guys have dug through an enormity of special black gold releases over the last couple of decades. Also with them having played a lot of gigs around the UK (especially in the north of England) throughout this time, they are well qualified to compile and mix something timeless and special from their collective treasure trove of records. They show their fine skills as DJ's in the way they hold that elusive dancefloor groove as they flutter through the tracks. To dance or not to dance? It is simply not an option.

"Here's 12 of our favourite cuts from that truly golden period of 1995 until just after the millennium. We purposely avoided going for something super banging, but rather just some good old fashioned deepness and gentle undulation, building towards the unreal Journeyman (an under-the-radar alias of the legendary Jean F. Cochois, better known as The Timewriter) track at the end.

A lot of these producers get somewhat overlooked when looking back at this period and perhaps, apart from true Discogs saddos like us, don't get the love from the current generation of house heads that they deserve. I first met Eleou when I was burning the midnight oil editing videos at a New York City music production school in the West Village. She came in with some footage to edit for a documentary of her previous stints as a DJ under a different alias. The school was a hot bed for meeting interesting people, so I took some time to check out her music.

We went to a few events together over the next couple years, and she even makes a cameo in my music video for Tarot ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrevYQ-qNcI ). Since then, she has traveled the world, living in Athens Greece, New York City, and Berlin. Her zest for adventure and experience traveling the world comes through in her international DJing style, combining heady, atmospheric cuts with body moving low end.

Her Ancient Puzzle Arts mix is an incredible introduction to her unique international style. The mix is a concise hour of atmospheric, synthetic and rhythmically captivating beats. Perfect for an East Coast winter evening before going out to the club. Enjoy!
