The project
Walkingsoundtracks is a dedication to geography, to movement, to voyage crossings.

A singing for the road’s sounds, it tells the history of a multitude of inner fragments coming together to shape a context. This project was born going through field recording, electronic music and acoustic universe, combining writing and improvisation to the casualty of the soundscape’s textures.

2012 is the year of the publication of Tightrope, a work where Nicola Di Croce (guitar, laptop, fieldrecording) first composes this thick texture on different levels, with the help of a large group of musicians.

It is an eight tracks album made by a seven artists collective composed by electroacoustic ambient musicians with a particular bent for drone music. Work has been commisioned by Fabrizio Garau from "TheNewNoise.it" , an italian webzine focused above all about alternative, experimental music.

'The webzine research is always directed towards the less conventional experience, therefore if this would be a section of a hypothetical guide, there is so much to say also about the support from independent labels such as Afe, Silentes and, as much as we should write the efforts of label such as Boring Machines and Fratto9, that join themselves together with different micro-noisy scenes around the country. We would not even end here, see Nephogram by Rosati , Farmacia 901 by Perletta , Ripples by Mazzon and the newly formed Oak Editions by Ballerini and Giannico . The quality is high, and the proof is the constant interest we received from abroad, as they did Entr'Acte , Aurora Borealis, Small Doses , Cassauna ... even we still have to make more steps further ( Interestingly , in this sense , the policy " Italy against the rest of the world " from Fratto9 splits ). The sales seem to allow these - that sounds a little eye ' Istituto Luce - "brave independent publishers " to think every time to the next release, nothing more but nothing less, apparently. I knew I wanted to write something that was similar in tone - just as long as I could make my horn section soar. You can be the judge of that. "Pandemic" is what emerged after 60 hours of programming and writing.

Berlin-based alt-pop trio The Major Pins present their debut single Robots.

The Major Pins are German musician and songwriter Katharina Garden on piano and guitar, New York drummer Henry Grant and Paul B Keeves from Birmingham playing electric bass. From their humble beginnings The Major Pins have been wowing an increasing number of music lovers and are seeking to spread their wings.

The music video for Robots was filmed at the legendary GDR (East German) broadcast studios in Berlin.

 Francesco Giannico’s ‘Luminance’ is an elegant album. How it luxuriously incorporates elements of the classical with a glossy sheen is quite impressive. At times it sounds akin to Max Richter put through digital synthesis. The result is extraordinarily calming. With this digital sound (and it is quite electronic) there’s a sense of true organic wonder. ‘Luminance’ achieves this human effect by carefully filtering field recordings, guitar plucks, and other reminders that there is a world outside of it. 

                The album begins with ‘Further’ which sets the tone for the album as a mellow, dreamy pillow of a song. ‘Lacks soul’ is an ironic name considering how deep in the center of it is a moving piano piece clouded by so much processing. Part of the joy of the song is how Francesco appears to peel away those digital layers revealing its true heart. On ‘Things we can not get’ things take a different approach. Field recordings are effectively employed on this track, the longest on the entire album. For this album there’s a true sense of drama with an uneasy melody that wheezes by. ‘A quiet dream’ takes the formula for the album and reverses it: beginning with the natural before it submerges into the edited. The album ends on a sleepy note with the narcoleptic ‘Suggestions’. 

Overall it is a lovely nebulous cloud of an album. This is the perfect soundtrack for a cloudy day. For though the sky is obscured there is beauty behind it. Thus the same is true for ‘Luminance’ and its dual digital/natural format.
