URA (Zac MacArthur)! Mans got tunes. 

How do you typically prepare a mix?

I fill a stick or a bag with music I want to play. Try not to overthink it. After a while I feel like intuition is king.

Who do you think is the most underrated artist of our time?

3 goals for 2022 that has nothing to do with music?

Breath. Stretch more. Get a dog?

If you had to go back in time music wise what era would it be and why?

I think I’d stay right here. Insane music coming out right now!

What is your most recent favorite DJ mix and why?

Huerco S and DJ Healthy at Public Records. Refreshing club music. Love it.

What was your first gig? How did it go? 

It was in a bar in the suburbs using Virtual DJ. My girlfriend at the time was celebrating her birthday. We were 16. It was hype.

Nueen has been mad busy in the last two years. The Barcelona-based Mallorcan has put out three albums of beautifully quiet and unhurried ambient. Each one has unfolded with its own intimate sense of narrative and showcased deft craftsmanship with both synth and guitar. The tunes drawn on the atmosphere of Nueen's home island so fits in with what you might call Balearic, but very much on its own terms. They are warm and gentle but underpinned with a melancholy that makes them all the more engaging. 

There is plenty of that on show across the opening of this week's podcast. Roomy arrangements are detailed with only the wispiest of pads but slowly a rhythm begins to emerge. It's dubby and dreamy and transports you out to sea on a sonic life raft that eventually sinks to the ocean floor. From there you roll along on supple drums, wispy pads drift by and shards of light pierce the surface. It is a perfect soundtrack to slowly awaken your soul on a lazy morning.

Hi Gi Gi! Recently Gi Gi released this amazing new album on Index Records. This mix is made to accompany that release, and it wholehearted hit some of the same moods textures as on the record.
We came in touch with Gi Gi’s sound through this gorgeous cassette on Quiet Time Tapes, followed by the one on Good Morning Tapes. Check them both. This mix is like the shimmering of the sunshine after a rainy day. Triphop & broken RnB into the periphery of your dreams.

@napmusick : The mix is an amalgamate of disparate inspirations behind the label. Here you’ll find music from some of my friends who inspired the label and who were also behind some of the first releases (Scott Gailey, Yu Su, Spencer Davis). Likewise, there’s a lot of formative records across various genres and labels which were some of the instigators behind starting a label. A lot of these I found working at Dandelion Records which was a shop I frequented and worked at during my teens/ early 20’s in Vancouver. Shout out to Jeff Knowlton and Les the record man – my music dads!
