@g-k-machine : At first I decided to only pick records that existed prior to 2015, the year the label started. In other words I interpreted it as using the mix as an opportunity to showcase what HAD inspired its birth. Then I thought, fuck this weird limitation I’ve imposed on myself….there is so much great music being released NOW that I want to put on it. Besides, the label is constantly evolving so it would be weird to say the influences stopped after the label started. So in the end it encapsulated as much as I could possibly bring into it and despite it’s diversity, it’s still quite niche…….

@elenacolombi : The OG mix was recorded for you around a year ago. It showcased a lot of inspiring women - past and present - in music and art.. it was closely connected to the 'Donne Che Corrono Coi Lupi' release that came out last December on Osàre!. For this reason when you announced a long delay of the Oddity website / project I thought it might be best to air that mix via NTS [04.10.21] instead, keeping it close to the release date of the cassette. 

So the mix I am sending you today is mix #2 : A selection focussing entirely on upcoming artists and music on Osàre!. 

Some of the music might not come out for a while, so the track-list is partly top-secret. Still, I couldn't think of a better way to showcase what the label is all about!! I hope you enjoy it.

The energy was super nice and I have reconnected with a lot of parisian friends at this party !

Musically it's a compilation of my summer favourites, including a bunch of very different genres as always : post punk, sexy house, industrial, amapiano, you name it !

@mzkbx : I needed a bit of reflexion to conceive it, because it’s about influences and I have so many that it’s not possible to put everything together. Actually it is but it would result in a big cornelian dilemma and I wanted something coherent that fits with the label… 

In the end I decided to take a track from every record labels that I admire and which were influential for me and Macadam Mambo, a kind of hommage. It ends with « Macadam Massacre » by the Bérurier Noir which influenced half of the name of the label.

Arne Bunjes : The Mix I made draws its inspiration from the moment I began to go out at night regularly, when I moved to Düsseldorf to Study Social Work at the Fachhochschule Düsseldorf.

In my hometown my musical Influences were US Punk/Hardcore, Hip Hop and whatever pop music was hot on local Radio or MTV. After randomly ending up at the Salon des Amateurs (in the early noughties) where the music was completely different I started to dig deeper: going out at night then trying to find what I was hearing in flea-markets and record stores. 

SDA became the main Influence in my musical life as well as being a huge Influence in starting the record label.

The Mix tries to showcase the musical spectrum at the Salon in these early days, from my perspective: the 2007-2011 era! This is different to the sound that came later and for which most people identify what Detlef Weinrich aka Tolouse Low Trax was playing. But of course other regulars like Vladimir Ivkovic or Tako where also a huge inspiration.

These are the tracks that I heard there, liked the most and wanted to include in my collection. I came back to them with joy each time and started to play them myself. Although most of them are not super obscure I don't hear them getting played out anymore. They are mostly real tracks, not specifically made for the dancefloor.

Joseph Tagliabue : This mix represents music that I loved over the years. It was very difficult for me to put together music that influenced me, because it'd be too much. In this selection you can find music from Italian artists only, from different periods 1972 to 2019. The key was to chose records that impressed me particularly from the first listening, that aroused in me strong sensations and filled me with emotions, positive and negative too. It’s like a back path where you can find part of the music I came across in the years and which have enriched me a lot and deeply inspired me as an artist and music producer.

A playful, experimental, curious approach to electronic music production which sounded much more interesting to us than the sterile minimal techno which was so hyped back then. Big shout out to the labels who we loved then, and still love today: Karaoke Kalk, City Centre Offices, Sonig, ~scape, Warp Records, Thrill Jockey, Morr Music, Ghostly … (sadly some are no longer with us).

Houschyar : As you asked me to create a mix that exemplifies my influences, I dived into stuff which has accompanied me since quite a long time. Obviously I usually put the music that inspires me
in my mixes, but here I tried to pick a wide variety of artists and pieces that have influenced me and my work a lot in recent years while trying not to play anything I have played before in radio shows.

The mix contains some of the grandparents of the music I appreciate, such as Alice Coltrane, Robert Wyatt, Ahmad Jamal, Aydın Esen, Peter Michael Hamel, as well as some more contemporary artists and friends which have been a inspiration to me such as Şevket Akıncı, Alper Maral, Piotr Kurek and Sunfear. Finally everything is glued together by a series of field recordings I collected in Mexico in the past months.

A lot of these I found working at Dandelion Records which was a shop I frequented and worked at during my teens/ early 20’s in Vancouver. 82j6 : I got too late into electronic (dance-)music for originator nineties influences, so it's more their early noughties offspring that influenced my sound. The minimal and electroclash hype back then – some might consider it a guilty pleasure but I somehow like to remember it. Wave and Post Punk can probably only be found in traces in my sound, but the mood of this music, especially from the early eighties, is for me the absolute epitome of what touches me about music in general: Fragility, coldness, melancholy. As I was born in 82, this enlightenment only came to me almost 30 years later. But it somehow ran through everything that was. In between there was hip hop and skateboarding ... a lot of wrong turns, a lot of searching for my identity, a lot of traces that this time still left behind ... and a lot of fantastic records.

@jokioskulturos_official: Ok, so I decided to think outside the box. I was trying to be honest with myself, taken that this is an INFLUENCE mix. So it had to be something that influences my taste of music , wright ?
I remembered that my first music CD was "The Eminem Show" by Eminem. He was my first music idol. And that was when I was a kid at 5th or 6th grade in school... So I guess rap music stayed with me till now because part of my vinyl collection is old school hip-hop records. That's my prefered genre of music when I kick back to chill. Also you can find many hip-hop influences in my own music. With that said I think it's obvious that you will find old school hip-hop music inside this mix. It was the most sensible and honest thing for me to record.
