The two of us, Howard and Marc, have known each other for a whole decade. Back then our music was very different, today we meet perfectly in the middle at a B2B! As 2 residents of TheGate, we were closing the summer season for us with this set. We are already looking forward to the next time, which will definitely happen!

Elata Series 004 with Markellos.

Release day! This fourth podcast of the Elata Series features Markellos, a Greek artist based in East London. Markellos started his musical journey because he wanted to dive deeper into electronic music. Passionate about crafting and discovering his own sound, he delivers a music which is a deeply personal expression. His sound is minimal with plenty of spatial elements in the tracks. Always seeking to craft beautiful sonic landscapes that evokes  euphoria and invites listeners to dance and enjoy their body.

We are extremely proud to introduce him with this podcast. As a new emerging artist from the London scene, he respesents the core of what Elata is: a platform of musical expression and experimentation for any talented people in the underground scene.

In these times when the term DJ is sold so cheaply, vinyl artists like Héctor Mad shine with their own light.

With a turntable experience stretching back several decades, his prowess in the craftsmanship of music mixing is beyond doubt.

That is why we have chosen him to be the author, yes author, of this complex piece of music that results from the combination of the productions that he himself has chosen from our catalog.

Throughout the footage of this mix, 40 skilfully intertwined excerpts sound that provide a personal and non-transferable vision of the label's catalog, techno in all its forms and manifestations in a unique sound journey.

The pieces of the puzzle fit together perfectly, as part of the same whole that the artists who have donated their art to us have composed individually. What a better way to celebrate these first five years of Koryu Budo!

We are infinitely grateful for the talent and dedication of all the participants in this adventure, from the graphic part to this compilation in the form of a mix by Héctor, which will be released in limited cassette format.

Hector Mad plays Koryu Budo. (Koryu Reel 01)

Creznight is de mede oprichter van Oefenmeesters, DJ, en producer afkomstig uit Utrecht, Nederland. Zijn muzikale reis is een spannende verkenning van groovy Detroit-geïnspireerde techno rechtstreeks uit de jaren '90. Stel je levendige baslijnen, pulserende 909 kicks en hypnotiserende percussielagen voor - allemaal ontworpen om je onder te dompelen in een meditatieve groove!

Creznight vindt inspiratie bij meesters als Sterac, Ben Sims, Umek en de vroege Drumcode-releases. Momenteel is hij ijverig bezig met het maken van nieuwe tracks in de studio, met een langverwachte EP gepland voor release in 2024. Zijn reis naar de wereld van groovy muziek ontstond in Ierland, waar hij zijn eerste stappen als DJ zette.

De Amsterdamse ravescene heeft Tromp gevormd tot de ervaren DJ/producer die hij nu is. Hij ontwikkelt en groeit in een consistent, maar sterk tempo, waarbij kwaliteitsmuziek en rave-ethiek bovenaan zijn prioriteiten staan. Daarnaast is hij één van de oprichters van Up The Road

Zijn kenmerkende stijl heeft een solide kern die bestaat uit zijn enorme bibliotheek en brede muziekkennis. Liefdevolle veelzijdigheid door het spelen en combineren van oud en nieuw. Het creëren van eclectische verhalen met de muziek die hij te bieden heeft, terwijl hij de dansvloer strak onder controle houdt, maakt hem tot de bekwame en energieke artiest waar we hem om kennen.

Set the Mood with Lizz V!

For the 34th edition of Set the Mood, Lizz V shared her vision of her ideal opening set. In 90 minutes, she crafts a captivating journey through techno, building an atmosphere that connects deeply and sets the tone for the night.

To Lizz V, an opening set is a chance to create the right mood without diving into high-energy tracks too soon. She reads the audience, senses the vibe, and knows instinctively when to raise the tempo. Her approach is natural and guided by the flow of the moment.

Opening sets also allow her to test personal tracks on a big sound system with less pressure. In this set, she showcased several of her creations, offering the crowd an intimate glimpse into her artistry.

Lizz V describes her music as the feeling of fireflies dancing in the dark, touching listeners and lighting up their spirits. Her talent behind the turntables blends light and dark in a distinctive way.

She has performed at renowned Dutch venues and festivals, including Luxor Live, BASIS, Mystic Garden, Dockyard Festival, and the Melkweg. Her hypnotic sets combine industrial sounds with melodic elements, creating a balance of power and softness.

Step into her world and experience music where the ordinary fades, and something extraordinary begins. This set reveals her ability to build a perfect atmosphere, blending gentle progressions, her unique tracks, and a profound connection with the audience.

Lizz V - Set the Mood 034 (Oefenmeesters)

This 145bpm mix is part of my "Afterhours" series. Afterhours mixes tend to be late night sessions where I've randomly jumped on the decks, hit record and played around with often newly acquired music to see what happens. They're more raw and unpolished compared to other sets and are also mixed purely in headphones.

This set is very groovy with high energy and features many tracks that fit the "Gravitational Groove/Gravitational Techno" sound I'm curating and LOVING! Hope you enjoy.

This show with guest: Nørbak

Nørbak is Artur Moreira, born in the late nineties, in the North of Portugal. His devotion into making music begins early in his life, and since then, keeps working in his studio, day after day, discovering and developing his own sound, diving into Ambient, Experimental, and mainly Techno. 

It all started in 2016 with labels such and Circular Limited and Illegal Alien, where he gave his first steps and since then he has been releasing his music on respected labels such as PoleGroup, Warm Up Recordings, Semantica, Modularz, Affin, Float Records and his sound has developed throughout these years focusing now more on the mental and physical side of Techno, where he finds the most comfort. 

In 2019 he joins the Portuguese independent collective and label Hayes as an active member, wherewith his label colleagues he’s pushing the new wave of contemporary Techno. 

With appearances in some respected clubs like Tresor, Lux Fragil, Gare Porto, and Family Club he also feels supported by some of the most respected artists in the scene like Oscar Mulero, Jonas Kopp, Svreca, Dasha Rush and more. His future can only be brighter than what it is right now, with so many boundaries to achieve, discover, learn and cross.
