Phil Bowen

While pursuing a career in academia Phil also continues his career in music. He first started to learn the piano at the age of five and at ten began playing the piano accordion. At thirteen he started to learn the guitar. He has played keyboards, guitar and accordion professionally for many years. Phil also writes and records his own songs that have been played by bands in the UK. He is influenced by Ronnie Lane (Small faces/ Slim chance), Eagles, Van Morrison, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Blackberry Smoke.

I am a  raw untrained singer/songwriter.  I allow my songs to speak for themselves and take centre stage beyond my image and lack of expertise.   I started writing songs when I was 17 and have been writing on and off ever since.  My songs sometimes have a message, can be personal, a story about someone else's experience and are often written for someone.  I share some of my life through my songs along my time line, a diary of some of my experiences from 17 till now. I am currently a member of Talent Is Timeless an age positive web based community for the over 50's who write their own songs.   Many of my recent songs have been written from their workshops on subjects we have been set to write about.  I welcome you to join me sharing my songwriting journey and maybe there are parts of that journey where we have travelled together without knowing it!  The purpose of my songs is to touch the hearts of my listeners and to express and share my experiences of the different shades of love that have touched my heart and soul.
