Torn Hawk is no newcomer...he’s been lurking in the corners, creeping in and between various arts worlds for well over a decade: spoken word slice of life narrations as heard on NTS Radio and Trilogy Tapes; more guitar-oriented song structural work on Mexican Summer; extensive videography (PPU Party Volumes One and Two along with music videos for Torn Hawk as well as Bicep, Xosar, and more); and more beat-focused work as seen on Unknown To The Unknown and as is featured here on his 12” for Fixed Rhythms. Euphoria in a concrete rainforest. The joys of plumbing the depths of your own inner darkness. 80s synth sounds with soaring guitars and police sirens and rhythmic vocal snips. Spectral Bounce’s fifth instalment comes courtesy of L.A.’s rave archivist and dancefloor operative Dreams, A.K.A. Jesse Pimenta. Throughout his decade-long career the California native has inspected, dissected and concocted all manner of dance musics, leaving his mark with drops on Apron Records, Pinkman, BANK NYC and his own imprint Dance Data. On SPEC05 — Dangerous When Wet — he hijacks the synapses with 4 accomplished productions, plotting a high BPM course through manifold styles using the raw aesthetic that characterises his output.

“Losing Control” is a frenetic dancefloor invitation, immediately locking into a pacing groove. Beneath wild hand drums, Dreams plays with an insistent 303 bassline alternating between rasping buzz and oily squelch, while stern vocals are layered on top of breaks that have been processed to a viscerally satisfying end.

Taking things from delirious dance circle to underwater biosphere, the EP’s eponymous track explores a submerged 1980s Miami. Weighty & enveloping, “Dangerous When Wet” is pure aquatic pop-n-lock — hydraulic electro for a drowned world. Ocean floor caustics are transmuted into auditory form: arpeggios bubble up; drones shimmer mystically; hi-hats hiss like air from an open valve. Amongst the sonar bleeps, a barrage of pummeling low-end is sure to give subwoofers a workout.

“XTC Messenger” delivers an infectious paranoid dispatch, astutely balancing the sensual with the deranged. A slow-mo dial tone unfolds languidly, running counter to nervously twitching high frequencies. Its punchy percussion is tuned for maximum dopamine release; the track’s abrupt vocal chops and mechanical kick-snare pulsation evoke the leather jackets and jagged edges of 1980s industrial discotheque.

“Pressure Points” closes the EP on a heady and mesmerising polymetric trip. The parting track is a lithe yet spacious number, propelled by a rattling break. Here Dreams follows from track 2, creating an immersive environment in which sounds tightly twist and twirl. Shifting oscillators call out like tiny creatures as the bass throbs and wriggles further into your brain, long after the needle hits the runout groove.

Jacques Satre is one of those rare artists we can truly call a mindchanger — a taste shaper whose work changes the way we listen. Electric Shapes has always had a strong connection with the French scene, and Jacques perfectly embodies its forward-thinking spirit.

From his La Marais release to the remarkable music he’s shared on Worst Records, Jacques has consistently delivered sounds that astonish and inspire. His artistry first crossed paths with Electric Shapes through La Marais, an album that blew our minds from the first listen. Naturally, we invited him for a podcast — as we often do with artists who inspire us — and his openness, vision, and thoughtful perspective only deepened our respect for his work.

Most recently, Jacques unveiled a transcendent and spiritual album on Éditentités, roaming the psychedelic landscapes of dance music with the patience of a craftsman and the soul of a storyteller — blending acoustic instruments, precise production, and a borderless musical vision. 

It was a huge honor for us to invite Jacques to be part of our very first vinyl release. Without hesitation, he agreed and delivered a killer remix of Kalocain’s Genetic Memory, setting a powerful tone for what was to come.

Later, he joined the 5th edition of Unreleased Territory and now, with no doubt in our minds, we are adding him to this special edition of Unreleased Territory. Combining his masterful production with his easy-going communication and open-minded artistic approach, every collaboration with Jacques is an unforgettable journey.

Filler Arc With a Budget is a six-track ride where humor, anime references, and techno collide. Three tracks playfully bend expectations — one even sneaks in a cheeky vocal — while the other three lock into hypnotic power, each unfolding like an episode in a bigger saga.

Inspired by filler arcs, budget cuts, and the joy of side quests, Essio turns what’s usually seen as a throwaway into something essential. These tracks might not resolve the plot, but they’ll hold the dancefloor hostage until the next chapter begins.
