“Observatory” by Sungate is OpenLab’s new addition to their eclectic show schedule. The two hours radio show will explore the broad spectrum of electronic music that influences and shapes Sungate’s sound, by discovering their guest's and label founders  -Moy Santana and Hakk- musical tastes. Each episode will be illustrated by a unique piece of art by Abel Fdez, the artist behind Sungate’s visual universe.

GiGi FM is a trained dancer, which gives her a deeper insight into the intrinsic relationship between music and bodily movement. You can read a lot more about her philosophy and approach in the interview below, but you don't even need to know about it to hear this in her RA Podcast—a collection of swirling deep techno that rivals anything made by the usual cohort of "hypnotic" techno heads.

Looking at the tracklist doesn't really do it justice, but the names involved give you an idea of what to expect: Varuna, ASC, Donato Dozzy, The Orb, Sunju Hargun. This is techno that ripples rather than bludgeons, that moves with an ethereal grace, where tracks bleed into one another beautifully, with a few surprises, too. While you're here, you should check out her Magnetite EP for Bambounou's label Bambe, already one of the young year's most bewitching techno records. But if this is your introduction, then turn off the lights, light a candle or some palo santo, and sink into two hours of your new favorite techno DJ.

Joan Gila is defined as a music eater. He has been collecting records since he was 15, and his great passion is searching from box to box and discovering jelly beans. He is the thinking head and curator behind the HOC radio podcast platform. Joan is also a part of the DJ duo Binomi alongside his longtime friend, where they have played across different venues in Barcelona and others. They recently released a music talk show at Dublab Barcelona called Geography and History, give it a listen to get to know more about the duo.

A history/mix composed of titles of each track, walking you through an entry into planet earth and guiding you back through the exit. A journey experienced through the perspective of a foreign entity viewing our planet, always hidden, peacefully observing. 

The podcast is built around the concept of track titles. Subjectivity is always present, especially in muzak music that leaves out text. Each author proposes a title based on an idea, and this is how this journey is built. Something coming from somewhere in the universe, quietly entering into planet Earth, observing; the atmosphere, the forest, the oceans, the people, its dance… Once done, it moves away from where it has entered, without causing any disturbance.

The Alchemical Theory project was born in 2018 from the creative union of three italian producers. The identity of the project has been very influenced by the favorite sounds of the three artists, ranging from modular electronic sounds to much more atmospheric elements. This project also comes from the love of mysticism, alchemy and nature. In each release they want to represent something that affects the listener's mind, reproducing a real mental journey.

As the year winds down, we wanted to send you off with a bang – a deep, rumbling bang delivered straight from the Utrecht underground by the one and only Vand. We've known this sonic sorcerer for ages, watching him transform from a bright Dutch talent to an artist whose output has been recognized and cherished in underground scenes worldwide. 

Over the years, Vand has made a reputation for himself as a producer who is equally prolific working alongside like-minded piers like Bas Dobbelaer, Alfred Czital, and Shoal, as well as working solo where he conjures deep, dubby adventures that twist and turn like Escher sketches, always one step ahead of the dancefloor drone.
Releases on labels like Something Happening Somewhere, Nyame, Alpenglühen, Harmony Rec, and Konstrukt speak for themselves. 

Speaking of labels, Vand just launched ISOTOOP, a sonic beacon birthed from the ashes of a great event collective (initially founded by Van Anh and featuring Ben Buitendijk, Shoal, and Koen Hoets). Their debut, a Vand & Shoal juggernaut called Voal, has been on heavy rotation in our HQ and has found its way to crates of many DJs worldwide.

With that fresh fire in our ears, we present you with Vand's mix for us – a darkroom dub journey built for late-night explorations. Buckle up because this isn't a stroll in the park; it's a 200km/h Autobahn voyage on cruise control, smooth as silk yet peppered with enough twists and turns to keep your heart hammering. Deep bass dives will massage your soul, dubby echoes will swirl around your head, and when you think you've got it figured out, Vand throws in a curveball that'll leave you grinning like a Cheshire cat.
This mix is a reminder that the best journeys often take you to unexpected places. And hey, who knows what 2024 holds for Vand and ISOTOOP? One thing's for sure: we'll be right here, front row and center, ready to lose ourselves in the sound.

Continuum: a coherent whole characterized as a collection, sequence, or progression of values or elements varying by minute degrees.

The fifth stop in our journey through The Continuum takes us to a land of tranquility, introspection and relaxation. And this exercise is guided by none other than Vand. And what can we say about his craft for those who haven't met him? A producer with a special touch for those sounds that tickle your brain, and a live performer who can also be found often behind the DJ decks. From solo lives to collaborative 5 people acts, Vand is as versatile as they come when it comes to improvising with electronics. But his sound, picking both from the deepest to the most playful, strikes a great balance for dancefloor and for "brainfloor". His project Isotoop (along with Shoal) recently materialized into wax, so seems appropriate that their first reference as Voal is our suggestion as a starting point to discover his sonic dishes. 

For The Continuum, Vand has prepared a set of deep and downtempo goodness. Expect ambient scapes, slow-ish beats and breaks, some evocative pads and emotional moments... he masterfully cooked a set that will work for a Zen moment, for a cocktail hour or for a comedown epiphany. 

We welcome Vand to our adventures through The Continuum.

The Continuum: Vand

Luigi Tozzi is an Italian DJ, live act and producer known for his atmospheric and immersive performances. 
He is an adroit manipulator of sounds, reflected in his productions that fall into the deeper, atmospheric areas of electronic music. They are impactful without applying force, evoking a cocoon-like sento in its listeners. 
Tozzi found his artistic home on labels like the Swedish Hypnus Records or Non-Series, where he regularly releases. 
Since his first release on Hypnus in 2014, he contributed numerous times to their catalogue and label showcases. 
His major project on the label is the "Deep Blue" album trilogy released in 2014, 2016, and 2021. 
It draws inspiration from a profound fascination with the oceanic world, a recurring theme in both Tozzi’s life and work. 
In 2023, an especially adapted ambient version of “Deep Blue” premiered in London. Tozzi's releases on Non-Series, like “Tender is the Night” (2019), “Almost Blue” (2021), and “Spiral” (2023), emphasize distinct sound elements and focus on techno with a minimalist aesthetic.

Furthermore, he contributed to a variety of labels like Mental Modern, OUTIS Music and Calipso.

Besides his work as a Live Act, DJ, and producer, Tozzi is involved in sound designs for art and film projects and is known for collaborations with other musicians and artists.
