Softening Distance is a continuation of POLAR STILL’s ambient language, moving toward lighter space and reduced weight.
The EP focuses on air, distance, and subtle motion through slow-evolving textures, restrained dynamics, and minimal harmonic movement.
Fully instrumental and environment-driven, the music emphasizes place and stillness rather than emotion or narrative, allowing the sound to dissolve naturally rather than resolve.

Held in the Quiet

In the first week of September we’re heading to the beautiful scenery of Tisno, Croatia, to celebrate the first edition of Dekmantel Selectors. In the run up to the festival, we’ve launched a new temporary podcast-series where we invite ten of our selectors from the festival to dig deep in their unique collections. The idea behind the mix is to create a Time Document, focusing on a specific period of time with the artist being free in choosing this period. This period could in fact entail anything: a certain decennia, the time he or she fell in love, The Cold War, November ’92 – March ’93, or the rise of Nigerian music. It’s up to the Selectors to choose and tell us a story based on their music collection.

What has been a beautiful ride through many record bags, now comes to an end with the final Selectors Podcast by Manchester-based Andrew Lyster. The NTS-radio host provided us with a finger licking good mix, touching on many electronic gems that have a special connection to him.  "I wanted to stay true to the theme of the mix series, hopefully offering something different to the other selectors whilst also presenting something that’s true to myself."

Lyster is known as the co-founder and designer of the meandyou collective. Over the past years, Lyster has established himself as a DJ in his own right, through hosting the collective's monthly radio show with a string of world class guests and making regular DJ-appearances everywhere. "This corner of my record collection really excites me, so much interesting stuff was happening at this time, many of these tracks are what I’d now consider to be classics of that time. Quite a few older Manchester related things in here too, which are some of my personal favourites. For me this mix was more about recording a segment of my collection as opposed to a proper DJ mix. A lot of this stuff I picked up in the basement of Vinyl Exchange in Manchester; this era and that shop feel very connected to me."

Verdant Session 21_2 for Timeline Music

It's time to introduce another act from Iceland. Emerging from the cold, bleak, beautiful land of many contrasts and a massively high per-capita population of true underground music heads, Avenue Red welcomes a friend and DJ/collector Ása Lind Finnbogadóttir AKA Álfbeat from Reykjavik.

This trailblazing 68-minute session encompasses a wide range of styles: from abstract electronic breakbeats to IDM; from razor sharp futuristic electro to deep, minimalistic techno. Here Ása shows her musical maturity and wisdom, with top quality mixing and classy, considered sequencing to open her account here at Avenue Red! It's also uplifting to see that, as is common with the Icelandic underground folks, plenty of support is given to her fellow Icelandic creators in this "far-out" set of tracks that are both stark and enchanting, like the local landscapes.
