I got the idea to record the mix after running a few of the @striations-night nights. I wanted it to represent all the different energies, genres and tempos which we go through during one of our nights. It’s quite hypnotic yet has a lot of that deep, danceable energy you get from sub-bass heavy music.

There’s lots of tracks inside that I play out quite regularly but it’s the first time I’ve put them all together in the way that I did. It was definitely tricky to get the balance right at times, but I’m really happy with the mix and glad it’s out on a great platform!

𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜?
A lot of influence for sure comes from running the @striations-night nights. Hearing lots of great artists you admire play out, and getting to test ideas on a semi-regular basis really helps you to learn what you like. 

I’ve also put a lot of music made by friends in this mix as well. Knowing the person who made the track definitely helps make the mix feel more personal, and it’s something I always try to build into my mixes.

I started the night with a couple of friends (big up Rob and Elspeth) back in 2022 because we weren’t seeing the artists we wanted to see in a venue that we liked. Spanners was still fairly new back then and we loved the space so we went for it. Mary and Tobs who run it are the best and they’ve always been very welcoming. You can tell they really care which makes a big difference!

In terms of curation we try to keep it quite organic. We book (mostly) local artists who we really like and think complement each other nicely. I think a lot of it’s about helping the artists feel relaxed and free to explore their sound when they get on the decks.

Maybe one of the @loop_lf mixes on NTS. I really love the multiple tempos and genres that flow effortlessly. Have been chasing that sound ever since.
