OS Premiere: Ayesha - Magic Eye [Control Freak Recordings]

‘Silent Talking / White Divide’ is Bing’s first offering for Intercept. The hyper-detailed production style, combined with spacious vocal chops, bubbly synth work, and rumbling basses, make for a striking contrast that feels at home somewhere between head-in-the-clouds breaks and earthbound techno. The two tracks showcase just that. A-side ‘Silent Talking’ has gotten a special ‘Silence’ treatment by one of Intercept’s first artists: French II.

OS Premiere: Bing - Silent Talking (French II Silence Remix) [Intercept]

@sisterzo brings her debut EP to Scuffed Recordings with four tracks of heavy, percussive club music.

Midwesterner Sister Zo has been building a name for herself in recent years as a co-founder of Kansas City’s UN/TUCK label, using her DJ sets and productions as a means of channelling her experiences as a queer trans woman growing up in the North American Bible belt.

As one of the alumni of the Scuffed Recordings Artist Development Scheme, Sister Zo honed her production skills throughout 2021 and the result is the Screw Cheek EP – featuring four moody, bass-heavy tracks.

From the tension-building title track, to the rolling percussion of ‘Don’t Test Me’, to the broken beats of ‘Fire’, and eerie atmospherics of ‘Inhale’, Zo exhibits intricate sound design and carefully-considered production throughout the EP, marking her as a producer to watch in 2022 and beyond.

The room was deafly silent; so quiet she could hear her heart pulsing and the blood coursing through her veins. Hours had passed since she first arrived, there had been no sonic or visual stimuli to keep her mind busy; she'd taken to fixing her gaze on a spot on the wall in the hope that it might force something indescribable to happen. The wait felt endless, like an infinite stretch of time with no end in sight, how long could this torture go on for?

Manchester's Left, Right & Centre return for their first release of 2022 and the third artist-led release on the label. At the helm this time it's Bristol-based producer and Rinse France resident Pluralist who has previously put out rhythmic outings for Panel Audio, Manuka Records and Control Freak Recordings. For this three track excursion, titled B Squared, Pluralist treats us to another batch of syncopated drum patterns, rumbling subs and pacy techno mutations that are ready to heat up any dance floor.

Austrian producer @awo_ojiji brings his Mantecatura EP to Scuffed, featuring four new intricately-crafted, bass-heavy cuts.

From the mid-tempo opener ‘Recess’, to the footwork-influenced ‘Stress’, bassweight-focussed ‘Balsam’ and percussive dancehall-techno hybrid ‘Inwards’, Awo Ojiji displays a unique slant across the course of the EP with tracks that are at once club and headphone ready.

As with most things in an increasingly digital age, a time would come when it was time to bid goodbye to the past and make way for the new. The landscape had changed and it was imperative that the cities and towns kept up with these evolving technologies. Entering the train stations, much had changed. Gone were the rickety, rusting carriages, and in their place stood new electric trains, itching to cart you safely from point A to point B. 

For their fourth release, following EPs from Yuki Ame and Phossa as well as a charitable V/A during lockdown, London-based imprint Panel Audio welcome Sydney duo JV & Palf to the family. Named after their local train line, T4, the EP presents four club-driven tracks rife with energy-fuelled drum patterns and UK Techno influences.
