We are so happy and proud, that Mister “Westcoast” Joel Sarakula wrote an exclusive track just for our compilation. The latest album by the Australian born London resident and multi instrumentalist “Soft Focus” is his 9th, a mid-career album spanning his many influences and genres including Soft-Rock, Funk, Soul and Smooth Pop, all brought under the umbrella of his gentle gaze and a 'soft' aesthetic. Highlights include the two Shawn Lee (of Young Gun Silver Fox fame, also on our compilation with an exclusive track) produced tracks “I'll Get By Without You” and “Telephone Calls”. This is a lovingly crafted album, well polished and it feels like the culmination of Sarakula's adventures in soulful soft-rock and his defining statement in the genre. While comparisons will be made with contemporary projects like Shawn Lee's Young Gun Silver Fox, Drugdealer, Benny Sings and Prep, echoes of soft-rock icons Ned Doheny, Boz Scaggs, Todd Rundgren and Michael Franks also ripple gently through the album.

This L.A. duo comprises of Simon “Woolfy” James and Dan Hastie and they’ve been releasing music since 2000 for a who’s who of contemporary disco/electronic labels: DFA, Rong, Future Classic and Permanent Vacation. Their latest album “Destinations” (on Permanent Vacation) is their fourth studio album. The pair are committed to a laudable task: making California into an outpost of the Balearic islands – endless summer, guaranteed! Their music combines the classic West Coast sound with a twist of dark disco and a twilight vibe. This exclusive track is something of a disco odyssey! Close your eyes and “Seeds” will recreate the warm glow of a Los Angeles sunset, backed by the distant rhythm of the Pacific. A deep, rolling Moog bassline drives the journey forward, steady and hypnotic like the open highway. Lush horns rise and fall like the city’s hills, while shimmering synthesizers paint neon streaks across the sky, capturing the euphoric feeling of returning home. This is one invitation to dance under the palm trees you won’t want to decline.

Get Down Edits founder Darren 'Dazz' Dalton dons his solo Jisco Dazz alias for a fine outing on his own imprint. He's in sample-rich original production mode on 'Slap That Bass', adding Wurtlitzer style organ licks, jaunty pianos, dreamy chords and eyes-closed female vocal samples to a weighty bassline and smooth deep house bass. The accompanying remix package is pleasingly solid too. Dalton's Get Down Edits project delivers a more low-slung, funk-fuelled house revision that makes more of the killer bassline and vocal samples, before Noden slaps down (sorry) a rolling dub disco-meets-deep house rework and Stephen Richards gives the track a sunnier and more soulful garage-house feel.

Lovetempo is the brainchild of Mattie Safer, known for his work as the singer and bassist of Poolside and The Rapture. For Safer, Lovetempo has been a way to fuse saudade sentimentality and jazz-funk with modern dancefloor sensibilities. Following a run of well-received releases on Brooklyn tastemakers Razor-N-Tape and toucan sounds, Lovetempo now brings TSTD this special edit of his cover of Anita Baker’s “Same Ole Love (365 Days a Year),”. The track features New York nightlife icon Prince Terrence on vocals, bringing his signature touch to a timeless classic. Originally self-released in 2023, Lovetempo has extended and dubbed out their original version, transforming it into a hypnotic slow-disco groove that feels as cool and effortless as a summer breeze. Expect warm falsetto floating over the most laid-back, organic disco-bossa rhythms. Tasting notes: perfect for brunches, poolside parties, getting ready for a night out, or winding down after the club with a chilled Loire Valley red, this track is a stylish, feel-good essential for any occasion. The original was TSTD’s favorite track of 2024, there was only one problem... it wasn’t long enough! So please enjoy this delightfully extended, slightly dubbed version.

Young Gun Silver Fox (London)

Not a lot of introduction needed here. London based soul brothers Andy Platt “The Young Gun” and Shawn Lee “The Silver Fox” met back in 2005, but busy men that they are, it took until 2018 for their now legendary debut album to arrive. Never had the modern Neo Westcoast sounded warmer, fresher and more sophisticated – a truly timeless retro-futurist debut. Their contribution here is very special, a collaboration with two other legends of the past, Robbie Nevil and Steve Lindsey. As Shawn explains: “In January 2024, Andy and I went to L.A. to do some writing before we embarked on a US tour with Young Gun Silver Fox. We holed up in the Santa Monica beach front studio of L.A. music veteran Steve Lindsey. We were also joined there by Robbie Nevil of “C’est La Vie” fame. A normal YGSF Monday! It quickly became quite clear that our very first effort ‘Curious’ was sounding very YGSF!” Here at TSTD we have long held a hope of getting these cats on board, so we couldn’t be happier to finally have this stunning Westcoast soul classic exclusive.

Moi Je, en realité, is the Lyon-based L. De Lassablière. He is finally back with a new EP – ’Reviens’ – that’s more disco and funk than ever. He and a select bunch of close collaborators have crafted this new release with the act of dancing firmly in their sights. The essence of the Moi Je project is still there, with its French electronic influences blended with the warmth of Italian summer sunburns. It’s a signature, poetic sound that has evolved over years of experimentation and practice, now here in glorious high-fidelity. There’s a playfulness too, with lyrics and music combining in fresh new ways. His biggest success so far is his beautiful, warm, disco-ified remix of “On You” from 2016 for fellow Frenchman Kazy Lambist, which earned him a gold disc! The track hasn’t left our USB DJ stick since its release, and is guaranteed to get every sophisticated dance floor moving. (released on Delicieuse Musique Records)
