A friend tells me I have the kind of voice that's made for meditation apps. So I thought I would give it a go.

Peaceful Ocean Waves

Sometimes (especially late at night) I delve into the Golden Age of Detective Fiction: the Marples and at least one early Poirot by Agatha Christie; Anthony Berkeley’s Poisoned Chocolates Case; the Violet Strange stories of Anna Katharine Green; John Dickson Carr’s Bencolin narratives; and above all, the first 3 novels in Mignon Eberhart’s Nurse Keate series. This excerpt from a short story of mine I would describe as being informed by the genre, without actually being anything like a traditional whodunit.

Excerpt from a Southern gothic in progress. Told as a monologue, the narrative begins with two relatives reunited in their old home for the first time in many years. They welcome a visitor: an artist who had painted a portrait of the family matriarch and patriarch. Bringing out photos, they reminisce about days gone by.
