Sonic explorations and sonic creations

Max has been attrac­ted by elec­tro­nic music ever since. Accor­ding to all the Ambient, Acid Jazz and Trip Hop records his par­ents lis­tened to from his early childhood on, it has always been a mix­ture of both con­ven­tio­nal and uncon­ven­tio­nal, deep and orga­nic sounds that grab­bed his atten­tion and for­med his per­so­nal con­nec­tion to music.

Being taught the piano since the age of six and swit­ching to drums in his early teen­age years, his prac­tical back­ground in music was for­med in both har­mo­nic and rhyth­mic ways.

But also his obses­sion for knobs and devices that appa­r­ently ful­fill a mys­tic, sound-generating pur­pose have always been a very inspi­ring aspect to him and finally led him to the stu­dies of Music and Sound-Engineering, that he is still invol­ved with.

In his pro­duc­tions, his aim is to put the fee­ling and con­tin­gency of moments and pla­ces into musi­cal form, explo­ring and expan­ding the boun­da­ries of what is soni­cally possible.

Max uses ever­y­thing from field recor­dings and cheap pocket-radios to both ana­lo­gue and digi­tal synths to tell sto­ries that lack the words to be told.

Some of these here tunes on this Soundcloud aren't necessarily "typical" of Crayola Lectern's oeuvre, but recent additions do include some of the more approved "proper" recordings. I'll leave you to decide which are improvisations, hastily recorded home demos or opportunistic moments which happen to have been captured in studios. The quality control on this site is not indicative of the more anal approach to making the killer records that you will come to love from Crayola Lectern.
