EDX Kicks Off 2016 With New Deep House Anthem, "Missing"
 
After a tremendous 2015 that was punctuated with being named the #1 charting Beatport artist of the year over international heavyweights like Tiesto and Maceo Plex, EDX is kicking off 2016 on a high note with his first original of the year, “Missing” featuring Mingue, which is out now on Spotify, and due out on Beatport on February 12th via Spinnin’ Deep. 
On “Missing,” EDX tabs the up-and-coming songstress, Mingue, for a modern-day performance of Everything but the Girl’s record of the same name, while infusing the track with his signature deep house sound. The track opens with a curtain of shimmering piano melodies that is peeled back to reveal a chunky beat, catchy hook, and soft, thudding bass stabs that give “Missing” a deep groove. 

The Swiss-born producer / DJ was responsible for some of the biggest tracks of the year in 2015, including his original, “Belong,” his “Indian Summer” remix of Sam Feldt’s “Show Me Love,” which went on to become EDX’s most played track on SoundCloud with over 60 million streams, and his “Ibiza Sunrise” remix of Robin Schulz’s “Sugar,” that went on to receive gold and platinum certifications in various countries. With “Missing,” EDX is looking to add to his impressive string of Beatport-dominating releases before embarking on his NoXcuses vs. Enormous Tunes bus tour that will hit major cities across the United States and Canada.

One of the most uplifting and anthemic cuts to appear on last year's "Silk Royal Showcase 05" compilation proved to be the Eskai remix of Chomi feat. Elly's "She Is". This thrilling tune is finally available in unmixed form, alongside an equally radiant pair of interpretations by label veteran meHiLove.

Perhaps best known for the triumphant single "Wonersh", which appeared on a variety of leading trance & progressive radio shows last year, American talent Eskai kicks off his interpretation of "She Is" with a peak-hour groove. In the initial build, a slowly crescendoing chord progression is punctuated by echoes of Elly's soaring vocal. Given the suspense, the emergence of Elly's full verse in the main breakdown is especially nourishing to the soul, and the ultimate drop is a cathartic and timeless treat for melodic trance & progressive fans.

We're excited to welcome back Ukrainian veteran meHiLove, who contributes both a vocal and dub remix. A buoyant progressive house beat and a lush chord sequence imbue the soundscape with a hopeful, summery flavor. Gorgeous side melodies and, of course, Elly's joyful vocals reinforce the feel-good vibes. If you're looking for a stripped-down take, the 'Dub Remix' is both elegant and jubilant.

Adam Beyer’s Drumcode juggernaut attracts more fans and critical plaudits with each passing year. Holding firm on its future facing ethos, techno’s number one label presents a new volume in its acclaimed A-Sides series with 20 prime tracks to signify its 20th anniversary. 

Such is the volume of quality music Adam Beyer receives throughout the course of the year, releasing all of it would be impossible. Enter the blue chip A-Sides series: a chance for the quality-obsessive label head to issue a collection of outstanding tracks that couldn’t fit in their regular EP release schedule. 

With an eye on future talent, as much as the label’s established roster of heavy-hitters, the compilation showcases the full breadth of Drumcode’s multifaceted techno sound, equal parts inspiring and functional. 

Led by the stealth techno funk of ‘Nine of You’, Beyer’s deft collaboration with Mark Reeve, the compilation takes in exciting highlights from big guns such as Alan Fitzpatrick, Dustin Zahn, Bart Skils, Pleasurekraft, Luca Agnelli, Jay Lumen, Kaiserdisco and Gary Beck. 

The rich vein of form displayed by emerging techno talent is similarly given prime position. Rising DJ/producer Boxia makes his Drumcode debut, fresh from a well-received warm up set for the crew at the hugely successful Junction 2 festival in London, while the likes of Enrico Sangiuliano, Juan Sanchez, Ian O’Donovan and Timmo also drop fire, establishing their credentials as some of the most promising talent breaking through the ranks in 2016. 

Reinforcing the global scope of the label, artists such as The Junkies from Toronto and Layton Giordani from New York, prove techno is winning a place in the heart of the new generation of artists coming out of North America.

The next instalment on Afterlife comes from Vaal with remixes by Locked Groove and Baikal. ’Wander To Hell’ is a three track EP, with three versions of the same track that each encapsulate the spirit of Afterlife in their own individual way.

Heralding from a rock n’roll and jazz background Vaal is unperturbed by the strict rules that define & guard electronic music. ‘Wander To Hell’ is stripped back and gentle, highlighting the emotive side of the label. The combination of alluring vocals and beautiful reverberating chords along with the ebb and flow of distortion makes it a composition that grips the listener from start to finish.
Belgian talent Locked Groove seeks the dancefloor with his remix. He brings back a little familiarity, the vocal remains, but is now present amongst an assortment of synths and percussion, pushing through to darker, heavier depths.
Baikal makes multi layered electronic music simultaneously for the heart, mind and feet. His version of ‘Wander To Hell’ is truly spellbinding, featuring a hypnotic groove that glides seamlessly through a continuum of time and space.

Pascal Junior - Holdin' On (Original Mix)

Released to critical acclaim in April 2016, Verve and his "Foundations" EP illustrated precisely why the Australian producer has garnered so much recent respect. As the original Proton Music release now sees a remix edition on Particles, "Sweeps" receives two new treatments from Israeli and UK talents.

Igal Magitman is an artist with a storied background that covers over a decade of music production talent. Another artist to come out of the fertile Israeli hotbed that includes Guy J, Khen and Guy Mantzur, Magitman has stood alongside industry giants and played a significant part in his country's music scene. A DJ schedule that has seen him tour across his homeland, has seen his passport stamped at global spots across China, Europe and South America. The Magitman production portfolio is no less impressive with over 250 credits finding their way to some of the finest modern imprints after a 2006 debut for Twisted Frequency with early collaborator, Brisker. Since then, Tribal Vision, Plusquam and Toolroom have all played a part in the Magitman story as his music became licensed to Sony Playstation and hit the Beatport charts on a regular basis. A frequent contributor to Proton Music with such classics as "Training Day" and "Wet" plus remixes of Moonbeam and Silinder, a pair of Particles rerubs for Mobilize and Scotty.A in 2012 and 2013 are now complemented by a third.

Playing tribute to Verve's underlying rhythmic groove, additional percussive elements are intricately layered before the familiar bass line is represented with intelligent key change. Refrains from the original are represented in an emotive, spine-tingling breakdown before rhythm and groove take over once more in the third movement to strong dance floor effect.

Derby based producer, David R Maddocks, from the UK's East Midlands, is an artist with a rich and varied production portfolio since a tech house debut for Kroton Sound Recordings in March 2015. Since then, over a century of production credits have been accrued for the likes of Baroque, 238W, BC2 and Hydrogen. Indeed, it was for the latter that the successful "Skeletons" EP was released at the back end of 2016. An appearance on Proton Radio's "Featured Artist" slot in May 2016 enhanced a reputation with a set of original and carefully curated tracks as Maddocks' career continues to go from strength to strength.

Debuting on Particles, the David R Maddocks remix of "Sweeps" is thus an impressive affair that cleverly pays attention to the familiar melodic themes present in Verve's original, underlined by strong kick and white-noise washes. A cleverly stepped arpeggio sequence, based on the "Sweeps" original, starts and stutters its path across stripped back breakdown before pairing in effortless fashion to the rhythmic casing. Evolving across the seven-and-a-half minutes, counterpoint melodic refrains from the original make their presence felt with intermittent laser-edged analogue effects in a dynamic and intriguing rework.

Remixes from Magitman and David R Maddocks have ensured that Verve "Sweeps" to victory one again through his inspiring production work.

''The Signs Within'' is Drunken Kong's debut album on Tronic, featuring 12 original tracks including two collaborations with label boss Christian Smith and talented Victor Ruiz. With this work Japanese duo prove they are here to stay with some top notch techno. Whilst keeping the groove alive, they deliver some punching bass lines, rolling subs and deep synths.
Each track has a message of its own. The Signs Within, Life We Knew and The Rhythm giving us that hypnotic, infectious and sometimes deliciously sinister vocal stab. Secret Garden and Perfect Dominance both take it deep, dark and twisted with a serious fearless low end and eerie synth stabs. Grooviness can be felt in the funky bass laid down in Mission and As It, whilst rounding off the LP, they take it slow, mellow and mesmerizing with A New Day.
The whole production takes you through a variation of sounds and textures, appealing to many musical palates. Creating a selection of tracks which are not all for the dance floor, but unique in their own way, whilst acting as a perfect complement to one another on this LP.
