▌I How did you prepare this mix and what was your main inspiration?
I put together this mix purely with the dancers and club floor in mind, it's big energy, big melodies, big feels. I want to sweat and move and shake, feel the rush of adrenaline and euphoria in unison, forget everything and be with you. An ode to my love of the rave.

▌II Which tracks marks a highlight in your set?
There's a new, unreleased tune of mine in there, which I'm excited to have heard in the context of the mix. My favourite moment when performing is sharing my own records and seeing people connect with them. Testing things I make in the club informs the music I make so much, I noticed the difference during the lockdowns and absence of parties and festivals since 2020, the tunes I made had a very different tone. Now that we are able to dance together again, I'm feeling the essence of the doof very much and my output is turning to these sounds again. It brings me a lot of joy.

▌III Is there some new things you learned in the last while? Did you find more inputs or new topics to focus on?
I've been focusing a lot on my live show the last couple of years. I had the pleasure to perform it in Berlin, Leipzig and Amsterdam before the pandemic hit and I'm happy to say now gigs are flowing back in and I'm getting to perform live again. There was a lot to learn, the best ways to incorporate hardware, create a visual component to make it more immersive, ways to make the setlist flexible so I can perform a little like djing and choose tracks depending on the crowd and setting. I'm very much in love with this extra way of sharing music with people, I'm super excited to see where it leads.

EPM Podcast 165 comes from house, techno and electronic DJ / producer Eluize. Born and raised in Adelaide, Australia she has spent much of the last decade based in Berlin touring Europe. Her own releases have graced such esteemed labels as Craigie Knowes, Lost Palms, Let’s Play House, Of Paradise, XLR8R+ and her own imprints Bermuda Series and Night Tide which has just released her new ‘Fast Friends’ EP. In 2020 Eluize started a coaching initiative supporting Womxn and Non-binary people in electronic music production, performance and label management and has guest lectured, been on panels and created content for SAE, Ableton, Beatport, EMC Sydney, and Funkhaus Berlin. Having DJed the world over she now steps into the EPM Podcast hot seat where her bold, fluid and dynamic mixing brings together the likes of Deniro, Eira Haul, Thermo Statik, Aldonna, Hardfloor, Hiver, Kiara Scuro & Timothy Clerkin and more into a playful and energetic set.

Eluize’s debut album ‘Confide’ surfaced on Craigie Knowes in 2019, flowing between dance floor hypnotics and melodies that throw you out to drift in a lonely cosmic ocean. In 2020 her sophomore LP ‘Gone’ appeared, capturing the full-spectrum of Eluize's mastery in song-writing, composition and production in all of its shimmering glory. Her take on synthesis, drum-programming, mixing and original vocals and lyrics take you by the hand and lead you into a rich garden of colour and sound.

Eluize’s live show is fluid and transportive, encapsulating the escapism of her music and delivering it via a tight selection of synths, drum machines, her intimate vocals and of course lashings of acid. Each setlist is improvised to twist and turn through her array of genres from expansive melodic trysts for day-lit open airs to heavy hitting dance workouts for fog laden floors.

Producer, DJ, promoter, and @soundsofvala label head, @soundsofkaspiann's work straddles a range of paces and moods, always with an eye toward the innovative. With a lower-tempo release due early next year on an undisclosed label, Kaspiann's more recent sonic explorations wade into swampy techno with psychedelic inflections.

In Patterns of Perception 117, Kaspiann pulls you into the flow through these murky sounds that dips and stomps along, with a selection of unreleased tracks from both his and his friends' studios, along with a handful of carefully unearthed gems.

Patterns of Perception 117 - Kaspiann

Known for her hypnotic dives to the psychedelic reaches of deep techno, London-based @freyacaldwell signature style emphasises meticulous sound design and the incorporation of lush and evocative textures. 

Having graced the stages of renowned venues and festivals throughout Europe, she has appeared at prestigious locations such as Amsterdam's De School, the Positive Education Festival, and London's own Village Underground.

Faery's Patterns of Perception 118 circles around echoes, resonances and hauntings, shifting between shadowy low-ends and moments of ecstatic crescendo. Encapsulating the tension and drama held in dnb's darker edges, the mix also weaves in touches of eerie contemporary classical-esque ambient.

Hailing from Amsterdam and with De School as his homebase, @nawazworldwide’s sound is always evolving, sliding deftly from wormhole techno to fast rhythms and glitchy electronics.

His selections on this Patterns of Perception 119 melt together while also reinforcing each other, each transition subtler than the last, sometimes even employing his own tailor-made tools and tracks for the purpose.

Beginning from a visual image, this mix blends diverse rhythms and atmospheres, offering a story line from which the listener can create their own narrative, their own image, free of imposition.

Marking the culmination of 2023, our final mix features the debut release from one of our own, @zilkamarie. As the driving force behind comms within our collective, Zilka's music inspiration is drawn from the diverse array of artists she collaborates with.

Recorded live at Jacopo (@severja) and Fred’s (@fred-czital) Hitze party back in July, the set follows on from a daytime open air while also opening the after party. Progressing from wet, spacious ambient sounds to dubby, irresistible beats, Patterns of Perception 120 captures and plays with quintessential afterhours vibes.

Hailing from Germany and now based in Portugal, @vril_01 has in recent years been quietly producing and performing some truly extraordinary electronic music. Going from strength to strength, he takes dancefloors on vivid, compelling journeys across Europe and beyond.

Patterns of Perception 121 takes us back to a very special live ambient set .VRIL performed at @nachtdigital MINT 2019, an immersive hour of lucid textures and swelling intensity.

We met Eluize by chance in Berlin when she was playing at IPSE with us a while ago now. We loved what she did in the booth that day and have been in touch ever since. She's got lots on the go so we thought we'd get her back for another mix for the SB series.

"For this mix I wanted to bring together joyful, sparkling tunes mixed with moments of acid and off kilter kicks. Lots of things I love right now, from all across the genre spectrum, expect prog house and melodic techno with touches of disco, electro and breaks.

Underground club music has a penchant for existing beneath the radar. Its parties squat in the sweat-soaked shadows of unsuspecting dive bars and undisclosed (RSVP for address) locations that are constantly threatened by gentrification and crackdowns by the authorities. Visibility is key to bolstering these vibrant communities but many exist beyond mainstream dance music culture, making them difficult to find outside major cities like New York, LA or Chicago. But still, the momentum behind the Southern and Midwestern experimental scenes is steadily growing and you can now find incendiary sounds across America's heartland.

Disparate cities such as Atlanta, Houston, Milwaukee and Ohio may receive less shine, but the crews and labels behind their respective homegrown subcultures are intent on making an impact. They choose to write their own rules. Pay attention.

~ About The Story ~

The Tepee - Even though I've never been Japan, i've always been fascinated by the Labyrinth Festival. I've watched and listened to hours of videos and recordings from that mystical place, especially from the Voices From The Lake live act. So when Monument asked me to play before half the duo, Neel, I knew that i'd play a special set to create a familiar atmosphere to Labyrinth. And here is the recording from the night, it's an hour and a half of dubby and atmospheric sounds, an imaginary immersion into the Japanese mountains, meant to dance and connect. - @vbcvibrance

Monitoring her career closely herself, it's easy to see how her consistent growth as a producer and DJ is motivated by keeping her integrity as an artist. With three albums on Ostgut Ton now, her recent World Of The Waking State LP saw her deliver an album more experimental than previous efforts, yet one produced at a time feeling settled more comfortably in her own skin. Seeking new and exciting outlets to express her projects her own labels Klakson and Dolly have been a continual source of new music. She's released a culmination of 70 records from an abundance of friends and new producers, as well as her own, over four different labels and sub-labels. We caught up with Steffi to discuss Klakson and Dolly, her productions with fellow Ostgut Ton artist Virginia, as well as finding the balance between studio and tour time. With not a single four-by-four kick drum in sight, her Truancy Volume is an arc back to her long-time affinity with early Warp and IDM records. Steffi has mentioned in the past how much of an influence the first Autechre album had on her, so it's no surprise their music finds a home in this mix.

Welcome to the 49th Ambient Sessions presented by Deep Electronics.
This monthly released podcast brings you the best and the most diversity Ambient music can offer.
It's the first sunday of October and that means a brand new session! This month Deepbass created his session for this month! So enjoy!

Bio:

Whether doused in the grit of his hometown Glasgow, or expanded 
by the widescreen vistas of his current base, Barcelona, the music of 
Darren Roberts has asserted it´s uniqueness within his preferred form 
of expression, rolling and tunneling techno, strong on propulsion and 
atmosphere. 
Naming the project Deepbass was a strong statement of intent and 
commitment to a sound of his own, from the start. That he has in fact 
established it and remains on a path of constant perfection of it, is 
indicative of Darren´s personality and talent.
This consistent path has seen Deepbass put out records on labels such
as Edit Select Records, Aconito Records, Dynamic Refection and 
Soma, all the while enjoying a steady rise in recognition both with 
audience and peers. Along the way, he found in Italian producer 
Andrea Deplano, most widely known as Ness, a perfect foil for his 
vision of techno, with both collaborating on releases which displayed 
uncanny compatibility in sound between them. This commitment to 
the deeper, hypnotic side of techno is further proved by his own label,
Informa Records, where releases by names like Reggy Van Oers, 
nAX_Acid, Claudio PRC, Takaaki Itoh, Ness, NX1, Hironori Takahashi 
are constant highlights for those who crave expansive and engrossing 
soundscapes.
What stands out from his production and performances is that 
Deepbass creates something identifably his own, but refuses to ever 
be limited by it or to get comfortable repeating just one thing. Instead,
he takes what´s already his own and streamlines it, sharpens it and 
nuances it. The origin and destination might be constant, but the path 
it takes and how the journey feels is ever-changing.

About the mix:

This mix is a collection of some of the stuff I like to listen to at home. Chilled music ranging between ambient, electronica and techno sounds. Music for deep moments.

Campfire Stories 53 (Entropy) by Vinsen

@eluize is many things: a producer, DJ, and label head, whose passions over the years have ranged from maths to (more recently) motherhood - both of which and more she discusses in an upcoming interview with us. Her label, Night Tide (@nighttideaudio), whose mission is deep melodic underground electronic music, has released music from @albrecht-labrooy, @djenacosovic, and @hans-berg.

Based in Berlin but with a foot still firmly grounded in her hometown of Adelaide, Eluize’s productions and mixes span techno, house, acid and more, fuse acoustic instrumentation with synths and machines, creating textures that are spacious, euphoric and rhythmically alluring.

Her Patterns of Perception 43 is at once precise, vivid and lush, a perfect antidote to the gathering darkness of Berlin’s coming winter.
