Night is over

this came from the first drum take recorded in my new downsized studio. kids needed larger rooms and my partner, Monika Jean, moved in, so sacrifices had to be made. most of the drums are gone. what you hear on this track are odds and ends i could squeeze into a corner. floor tom as a kick, broken hi hat that wont open, etc etc. surprisingly i tend to enjoy frankenstein drum sets more than full ones. the whole "making something out of nothing" spirit tends to inspire me most.

I saw a video of a catfish eating a pigeon that had come to drink water on the banks of the Seine River that runs through Paris. From the catfish's perspective, it's easier to eat an unsuspecting pigeon than to go to the trouble of chasing a small fish. The TV commentary said, "Humans build cities, and nature acquires new adaptations." The number of bears in Japan has become so large that they are coming down from the forests into urban areas and attacking people. Global warming has made Japan's summers harsher, depriving us of the opportunity to enjoy the autumn leaves in our beloved forests.

Idris is a genetically modified human, engineered to navigate spaceships through "sub-space" - allowing ships to traverse enormous distances. As such, he's a tremendously valuable asset and vulnerable to kidnapping. There are other costs: the process of navigation means being aware of the presence of terrifying entities that seem to wallow in sub-space... Another track inspired by Adrian Tchaikovsky's "Shards of Earth" novel.

The dusky sounding guitar is my Gibson 335 - I love the warm but crisp bite of those humbuckers!

The pic is cool and was part of a nicely timed double sun rise. So I took this pic just after dropping the kids to school. Their school is situated in one of the highest elevations in the town, so when I drove home I got a second rise over my tree line out the back garden which is the pic for the previous track elemental. The track is about us beings the ghosts in the technology code. We are merging ever more with it. I noticed someone suggest, destroy the data centers in a comedy sketch. It's interesting to think about it going back that short few years. Although it ain't going to happen, starting the internet again knowing how detrimental social media is for the the majority and how fundamentally materialistic tech aides intensifying in us... Not a bad idea.

My name is Paul Amlehn. I am an artist working in the mediums of literature, music, visual art, theater, opera, dance, performance art, and film.

My poetry, prose, and texts for theater and opera have been published in literary journals in 23 countries, including Exquisite Corpse, the California Quarterly, Poetry Salzburg Review, and Evergreen Review.

Cover art for my albums has been provided by painter Gerhard Richter and artist, musician, and filmmaker David Lynch.

At the end of 2024, I worked on several re-creation compositions which utilzed sonic elements from pre-existing songs by Brian Eno and David Byrne, Nine Inch Nails, and Grimes, from their albums "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts," Ghosts I-IV," and "Miss Anthropocene, combined with new music by myself and other musicians.

Earlier this year, I collaborated with painter Gottfried Helnwein on a short film called: Epigenetic Trauma Painting No. 1.

I'm presently working on a new music recording project.
