YALLTERNATIVE RADIO POWER HOUR

Aimee Mann is such a badass. She was queen of the Largo Singer/Songwriter scene when I moved to LA.  Before all that in ’Til Tuesday, she and the band (Michael Hausman, Robert Holmes, and Joseph Pesce) wrote this fantastic pop song that was ubiquitous in my childhood. I didn’t understand the wounded lyrics until later in life - I just hated her jerk boyfriend in that video.  We’ve all been in or observed relationships that involved some kind of abuse, and I felt that stripping this song down really emphasized that darkness of the narrator’s plight.  With my pal Oli Kraus on cello, here’s my take on “Voices Carry.”
