This track is an homage to one of my favorite all-time producers, the late Martin Rushent...who worked with The Buzzcocks (and Pete Shelley solo), The Stranglers, Generation X, Ian Gomm, Altered Images, the dBs, Hazel O'Connoor, the Associates, Flop, Does It Offend You Yeah (his son's band), the Go-Gos, Intaferon (the intacontinenalballistic mix of "GETOUTOFLONDON" is one of my most cherished 12" singles ever), and, most famously, the best music that the Human League ever made.

I've been asked in the past, if I could work with any producer, living or dead, who I would choose--I would, obviously, choose a living one...as to not do so would be awkward.  

However, when I take the question a bit more seriously, I lean towards Martin Rushent more often than not (though when I'm feeling particularly competent, I pick another "Martin"--either George or Hannett.)  

All of them, sadly, are no longer with us--Martin Rushent having passed unexpectedly in June 2011.  

This track is a belated tribute to the man and his work.

This track is also rather cheeky--it includes dialogue from an interview with Martin in the 80s where he talked about sampling, which was rather new at the time...and this track (shhhhhh, don't snitch or my wings will melt) includes some.  (Fan made tribute, unmonetized, copyrights belong with copyright holders, etc.)  

...there are also some elements here that sound like they MIGHT be samples, but actually aren't--they're interpolations on a similar theme, meant to suggest but not duplicate their inspirations.  

I've been working on this track for nearly two years (indeed, the official file name for the track posted here is "Rushent2 edit"--as this idea has seen many different forms in those two years)...and it's still just a trifle.  

That said, I thought it would be a good thing to drop as the 40th *SoundCloud Exclusive* Interbay track posted in 40 days.  Definitely shows you where my influences come from, as well as the progress that I'm making towards whatever I'm aiming myself at...
