This song was originally written as an acoustic track with just piano and vocals, and has been through multiple levels of feedback to reach its current stage. I have tried to approach overcoming isolation and depression in a way that is generally relatable, and to build to an optimistic conclusion. It's in Db Major, which is the musical equivalent of someone putting on a happy face.

Around two o'clock this morning, I finished a track that I assumed I'd be posting today.  

This is not that track.  

Instead of going to bed after finishing that track, I had an idea for ANOTHER track...and I stayed up to work on it.  Sleep?  Who needs it when you've got an idea?  

I know that most of the tracks that Interbay puts out (brand new music EVERY SINGLE DAY--so far!) here on SoundCloud is more synthesizer-centric (and yes, I realize that it takes a lot of nerve to keep the main genre tag for this track to be "electronic"--but, I assure you that it is.  No guitar strings were strummed in the making of 'Unforgettable'.)  

I contend that I can make whatever kind of music that I'm inspired to make and it still be, essentially, Interbay.  There are no definitions limiting the kind of mutant pop that Interbay shares with you...so if, like today, what I feel like sharing is an odd little uptempo folk/americana/indie pop hybrid--that, my friends, is STILL Interbay.  

I've wanted to make a track like this for awhile--uptempo, guitar-centric, with a folk-country-indie vibe...using a proper r&b style vocal...and then working on the sound design to add strings, harmonic plucks run through a bunch of electronic fx, acoustic drums and multi-tracked backing vocals.  It's just on the edge of being within reach of my technical abilities...so, it might not perfectly hold together--but when has ANY Interbay song perfectly held together?  

In case you're curious about the thumbnail, that's Ingrid Bergman from Casablanca.  An unforgettable performance in an unforgettable movie--with this scene being particularly unforgettable--so, thematically it works.  

It also has personal meaning, as it was my late wife's favorite movie--and, when we first met in person (after matching on Match), she immediately confronted me with mild outrage and surprise over the fact that I had not listed Casablanca on my list of favorite movies.  (Oh, I love "Casablanca"--but I love a lot of things...including the fact that she was willing to argue pop culture with me.)  

Like Ingrid, my late wife was Unforgettable too!  (She might have even liked this latest Interbay track--can't say that about all of them. ;) )

I Advise You Not To Touch Me

I do love it when your brain just locks into an idea and it feels effortless to create something.  

I also like it when MY brain does that, too!  And that's what happened with "Quibble"--the latest Interbay track to drop exclusively here on SoundCloud.    

At 114bpm, it grooves instead of sprints.  The palette of sound colors is limited to just a few and the grind of repetition is a feature on this track, not a bug.  There is progression and there is acceleration, as the energy level of the song does built throughout the tracks length.  

And the lyrics construct a narrative that is about storytelling techniques and escaping a seemingly inevitable fate--"the magic of quibbles."  That sure feels like a worthy topic to make an Interbay song about!  

Is there at least a little bit of Rufus Du Sol influence here?  I think so.  Your mileage may vary, of course.  

"Keep your eyes out for those sly quibbles."  

Heading into the weekend, this slightly dark but still worthy of an enthusiastic dance track feels perfectly timed.  Hopefully you'll give this one a listen, a like, a repost and share.  Add it to a groovy dance playlist.  Leave a comment.
