Record Label will be the next slow burn feature we will nurture on the site looking at record labels situated and placed in various international locations, affected by different social, economic and community based factors. We will open dialogue with these labels and try to delve deeper into the inception, ideas and decision to create, invest and persue this vision. We will get down to the detail on the core label and guest artists, releases and strategy moving forward, take into account all factors that have affected the commercial impact on vinyl and MP3 sales and also the labels greatest successes, surprises and challenges.


Boe Recordings based out of London pushing a modern underground and groovy take inspired and referencing Chicago and Detroit house music that we all are familiar with. The label is headed up by Ben Parkinson and begun life back in 2007 with its first release by Burnski – Monkey Hanging and more recently Just Like That by one of Boe’s discoveries Ladzinski underlining the signature House sound and narrative from previous releases.  Label name inspiration came from Ben recordings resident cat Barry and over time the label has organically grown & risen over the past few years with great character, intrinsic identity coupled with acclaimed deep House releases relinquishing praise from sites including influential online editorial RA, Electronic Beats, and K / D.


A key factor to Boe Recordings involve an solid base to ensure 12inch releases can be purchased in key record stores and also online, coupled with direct promotions available straight from the label offering vinyl and cd packages with purchases has been a definite win win for the label which is an idea a lot more labels need to model and replicate in there own back yards to cut out the middle man and ensure retail prices can be obtained straight by the label in these more modest times.


The next few releases will carry the labels strong heritage situated in Deep House with Kris Wadsworth flying the flag and also more label hook ups concerning gigs around the capital and the ever increasing Boe podcast will ensure the label sound can interest and engage with current and potential new Boe Recordings customers.


K / D and Ben exchanged dialogue over several weeks to attempt to paint the picture of Boe Recordings whilst dipping our toes in to various arenas all affecting the label and the wider electronic community keeping our eye on the future and what it holds, showcasing the labels art work and also a guest mix which you might have guest is not from founding feline Barry the cat but Ben Parkinson himself providing an cascading deep, melodic, consistent and concise deep House journey.

Recorded at home in the Boe mansions studio on my 15 year old unbreakable 1210s and an Allen & Heath Xone 62 mixer. Completely vinyl only with authentic dust and crackle, the mix reflects the sound of records I like to play at home after a night out or at after parties. Low slung, deep and rolling house music, it's definitely not an up front club set, it's one for the headphones or late night listening so kick back and play it loud, I hope you enjoy it.

The 28th Avenue Red Podcast is an extravagant 160-minute selection of House & Techno goodies from the vast record collection - and very capable hands - of a veteran DJ known as Rubsilent (real name Hamza Solim) from Istanbul, Turkey. A part-time DJ and a full-time vinyl junkie, Rubsilent started collecting records back in 1996 and it has been his obsession ever since.

Rubsilent was first bought to our attention with his incredible tribute mix of Chicago's Relief Records (https://soundcloud.com/rubsilent/relief-records-chicago-1994), a juggernaut session that really did justice to the sounds of the label and illustrated how hard-edged and unique this Chicago brand of music was. It is interesting to note that Hamza had actually moved to Chicago for University in year 2000, which he notes was partially motivated by his desire to pay a musical pilgrimage to this enormous factory of house music. He moved back to Istanbul in 2007 with a much advanced record collection and inevitably a better knowledge of the rich musical heritage of the sprawling US megacity that is rarely disputed to be the birthplace of house music.

From listening to his Relief mix we had a dig through his other mixes... seemingly a 1-man mix machine delivering music with flowing consistency, intelligent sequencing and unreal selections. We're very used to these types, but even for us this guy is pretty intense. Soak it up in your headphones or on your soundsystem at high volume and enjoy this rare fusion of DJ'ing talent in a truly banging mix!

Rubsilent from Istanbul, Turkey takes us on a slow-building trip through his amazing record collection with his 4th contribution to the series, taking us 60 deep. As far as we are concerned, Rubsilent (real name Hamza Solim) is probably the best DJ in the whole world. Fabric, Panorama Bar and other world stages of the underground: we urge you all to take note!

"I must've purchased dozens of records within the past few months but they just sit and collect dust. I hardly record a selection with them because I started to get bored with idea of putting out mixes on a constant basis, I began to feel like it's no different from running around in circles somewhat, you feel your mixes are easily drowned as the internet is over-loaded with music these days.

I keep purchasing the music that I feel on vinyl like always, from bangin' house to acid tracks, deepest house to chunky techno, but I hardly record any new sessions these days. I get to DJ out at clubs here in Istanbul but in order to play proper music for the heads at clubs in town, there has to be some decent afterhours club/small chill out room that's open-minded and receptive enough. The only trouble is you never really get both sides of the coin at one venue/event around here.

So, I decided to come up with a selection where I can set the mood for late nights but that restlessness in my soul made me squeeze some naughty beats here and there too, so here is the latest Avenue Red selection for you! Some dusty deepness or acid traxx from the vault, mixed with fresh purchases of both new and old new records." Hamza Solim, February 2016.

"As year 2016 draws to a close I'd say it's been another great year for quality tunes coming from genres that I follow. In fact this may be the year where I have set a new personal record for total records purchased! I felt like blending new additions to my collection with some older pieces as usual and instead of travelling between completely different genres, I kept it mainly house oriented this time.

The mix comprises many different moods of house from tough acid bangers to spaced out deepness. After building things up steadily in the first 90 minutes I got locked in. The inspiration and mood was flowing perfectly and I didn't feel like stopping, so I cut deeper back into my crate of selections and continued spontaneously 'till the natural conclusion was reached." Avenue Red was started in July 2013 with the intention of creating a good, steady platform for passionate music collectors, DJ's, artists and label owners who we found to have something special on their music pages, yet were flying far below the radar of mainstream press and hype.

We are here to showcase the good, friendly people who we find not to be trying to play some stealthy game of music scene politics with hidden agendas, gimmicks, sideshow fads or any other holographic projections of inflated egos. Instead, we aim to showcase those content with their low underground profile - tasteful diggers and purveyors dedicated to filtering wheat from chaff to distill the sweetest, most enjoyable and educational mixtapes.

In these 5 years to date Avenue Red has featured a diverse range of 86 talented DJ's/artists from around the world, from Russia to the USA and  from Peru to the UK. Thanks to all of you for contributing such great works over these years!

To celebrate this milestone we will be releasing 5 separate mixtapes in a mini-series over the coming weeks, which will draw focus on our most frequent and outstanding contributors so far. To get this party started we welcome the magical master technician from Istanbul... step up Rubsilent!!

"My path crossed with Alec's and his Avenue Red podcast series 3 years ago after exchanging messages via Soundcloud over the Relief Records tribute mix that I recorded in early 00's and shared online after recovering the recording from a MiniDisc. Rest is history...

When it comes to electronic music I believe in no barriers between the genres, which comes from my being hooked on this approach in the 90's with the likes of Laurent Garnier and Derrick May as role models. I have recorded five mixes over the years for Avenue Red and this is my 6th contribution. Some may lean towards a certain genre but in order to entertain myself first I tried telling different stories on each session by travelling thorough different moods and styles.

This 5th year anniversary contribution is reflecting a more positive, house-y side of me here. Lots of USA house from places like Chicago, Detroit as well as European sounds from past and present... I was recently reunited with a box of 50 of my records after 11 years apart (all from my time living in Chicago), so naturally I was keen to drop some of those records in this session. I'm humbled to be asked to return back to Avenue Red with this special 5th year anniversary selection. Many thanks to Alec for his hard work and to all the listeners throughout the years. I have loads of oddball trip-hop and electro stuff from the 90's and 00's, but rarely give it a spin. So at 7am this morning after a heavy Friday night, I made some scotch whisky disappear and decided to record a mix from this hunk of records. Done in headphones only, so to avoid being shouted at!
