After dropping several tracks and performing at select festivals throughout the years, Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen dedicated the year 2014 to explore the area in-between Ólafur’s more acoustic, piano-based solo work and Janus’s synth-heavy electro pop, with their collaborative electronic project Kiasmos.

By focusing solely on their self-titled debut album, Ólafur and Janus have been able to combine and further develop their unique sound aesthetics to complete an album driven by their mutual love for electronic music. Made in Ólafur’s newly build studio in Reykjavík, Iceland, a majority of the album was recorded using acoustic instruments next to a variety of synthesisers, drum machines and tape delays. It features a live drummer, string quartet and Ólafur performing on the grand piano, producing an ambient, textured sound, which makes it a perfect home listen and equally danceable record. If you listen closely, you can spot them record the thumb piano, finger snapping and even the sound of the metal grinder of a lighter slowly to replace the usual electronic hi-hat sounds, giving the album a far more intimate and unique atmosphere.

“We decided to start almost completely over with this record, so most of the material is written this year with the idea of making a record that can stand as one piece rather than a collection of songs. I am very excited to get a proper record out exploring a different territory than I am used to. London born, Brighton residing Christian Piers is a man of many guises. As one half of Laszlo Dancehall (alongside Leon Vynehall) he’s impressed with a steady and reliable stream of forward-thinking releases and remixes. However, he’s maybe best known by many for his bass-heavy house outings as A1 Bassline and is currently enjoying the buzz surrounding his new artist album ’Technicality’. Today he changes faces once again as he presents a new EP under his own name.

'Sambos Sub' is Christian’s inaugural EP on STEP, the limited vinyl label of Catz ’n Dogz. It also sees him continue a strong run of EPs under his own name for the likes of Curle Recordings, Dusky's 17 Steps and his own imprint, SOURCEUNKNWN. The four track EP demonstrates an impressively confident display from the young Englishman, as he rolls through sparse industrial beats, warming synth-wrapped lifters and packs some raw jackin’ flavour on the drop.

Coldplay - Adventure Of A Lifetime (Yotto Remix)

April will see Alex Danilov, notable DJ and producer from Yekaterinburg, release his music on Arma. Published along with 'reshape' by Fred P., three original tracks constitute the Noises EP — second production of the label in 2016. 

Being welcomed to diverse clubs throughout Russia and Europe, Alex Danilov has all the experience needed to know how dance music works. His own production is about finding the way to sustain deep mystic atmosphere within signature low-pass rhythm picture. Side B, containing both original and remix of 'Unknown Numbers', shows how this approach varies from classy style of Fred P. aka Black Jazz Consortium. 

Noises EP is the 12th release by Arma. The cover features artwork by P. Kuznetsov.

Berlin legend Marco Resmann returns to Poker Flat Recordings with the Olympia EP - four tracks of his signature finely-crafted house music. Resmann’s status within the house and techno scene is well established, and these tracks emphasize why he’s so respected as a DJ, producer and label owner. 

First on the winner's podium is 'Olympia' - a  firing tech house monster with acidic undertones and a crisp, driving rhythm section.

'Discus' also hits the mark - a bubbling, trippy roller that layers precise percussion over evolving, unwinding bass grooves and synth explorations.

'Equal' is up next - maintaining Resmann’s reputation for total understanding of dancefloor dynamics - the tension is kept constant via the balancing of tightly wound melodic loops, bubbling acid and compact drums.
