Lumière du matin

Way overdue for something new but I've been living in exile without the usual, albeit modest, setup I'm used to. So this might be pretty rough. And it's full of the usual horror at political realities and way full of schmaltzy velveeta. 

Guitarist note:  I don't have amps at present and was struggling to find a decent direct sound. There is a *free* VST plugin by Neural Amp DSP and online libraries of tone prints, also free, that came to the rescue. Highly recommended.

Autumn

Tom's piano melodies are so inspirational, not just to me (Mark) but also to Jussi, Georg and Boon. The energy of this piece carried us all off on a wonderful journey. We hope you enjoy the joyful enthusiasm that Tom initiated. Tom also gave me the key line, 'My Way Through' and I had to run with it as it made so much sense with this uplifting and hopeful music. With great pleasure and excitement I want to invite you to this magical journey into the world of "Abracadabra!". This album took us a whole year to compose and record - from August 2019 to August 2020. When we were close to finishing it up, we faced this difficult choice - what track to select for making a music video. It was a challenge! This whole album was composed as a cinematic adventure, so, basically, any track from it can be turned into the music video. We ended up asking all the participating musicians for their favorite tracks. It was quite symbolic that "Time" - the opening track - won the majority of the votes. This music video is the result of few months of scouting for locations, shaping the costume, makeup and accessories, filming and editing. We all hope you will enjoy it.

I want to thank again everyone who was a part of this project: 
- Phil DiMercurio (aka PdubJamz) for his drums and percussion truly transformed the album.
- Yamaha Artist Yoed Nir for the wondrous cello.
- Award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter Alexa Ray for the amazing vocals.
- Producer of several Grammy-nominated artists, Matthew Shell, who supervised mixing & mastering of "Abracadabra!", Erik Fredriksen for mixing and Steven Vagovics for mastering.
- Anastasia Frenkel for drawing such amazing artworks for each track! Vibrant, mystical, haunting, surreal - just like we envisioned this album to be.

Victor Birkan resides in Beer Sheva, Israel. In his youth, he obtained a classical musical education in St. Peterburg, Russia. Even then, he showed an interest in piano improvisation, although his teachers did not encourage it too much. Then came a long break… Victor tried different professions – biologist, computer IT. His passion for music did not interrupted, but he only started playing regularly again around 2016, and in 2018 began posting his compositions.
After receiving positive feedbacks on social media, he focused on improvised music. He is deeply convinced that improvisation is not a privilege of jazz, it is the classical piano that finds its way to people's hearts. Victor Birkan never prepares for his recordings. Sitting down at the piano, he has no idea where to start, what will be in the middle and how he will finish. The melody will come from somewhere... He seeks to capture pure emotion and splash it onto the keyboard. Practically does not use computer effects. His listeners often write about the "magic", bewitching influence of his compositions.
Over the past year, Victor’s composition, “Between Night and Day”, has been nominated for Best Solo Piano Single by the ONE WORLD MUSIC RADIO, and some interesting compositions have been created in collaboration with Yellow Roze Records label. Victor is constantly striving to expand his audience.
