BOAT

Cruising down the river 
a determined crew 
decides to advance faster
to sail towards a new direction 

Suddenly everything felt quite distant
somehow strange and empty

Shortly after
the river decides as well 
to swallow all paddles and anchors 
confirming its magnific power

What happened? 
Confused 
saddened
and scared
the crew is stripped of their disguised aid

Rush and desire flow downstream 
doubt and worry
arise

Space for surrender
the birth of total contemplation
stars brighter than ever in the night sky
waves crashing louder against the bow
the wind caressing the flags on high 

Floating boat
now a winged boat
non-pausing vehicle
on a never-ending path 
The big plan 
forever in movement 
growing and evolving

"I can still hear your voice in my dreams, but I don’t know if it's the real you. 
So far away but for some reason i can still feel you; I try to close my eyes but it doesn't help, I can still see you.

It's like the sweet smell of your fragrance never ends. it's hard to pretend it's not there because it is, enveloped in the air around me like an invisible mist. 

I still remember the sweetness of our first kiss, 
when time slowed down and I couldn’t hear a single sound, 
had no idea what was happening around me, I was just glad that finally...a piece of happiness found me. 

Waking up in a cold sweat, your memories stick to my skin. I swear some nights my dreams begin with scenes so vivid I feel like i'll lose myself in the past and if I don't relive these moments, I'm afraid that the few	 memories I have left of you won't last, and you'll turn into nothing more than a ghost. 

But of all the time we spent together, it was actually the beginning that I remember the most. 

Because the first time I made you smile, it felt like the warmth of the sun had made its way inside for a while. I mean, I could try forever to compile a list of things to describe it but I'd get lost in a sea of words so deep it'd be hard to keep my head up. The tender warmth of your lips made it hard to resist and even though past relationships had left you in bits and pieces, I promised that I would love you in all your imperfection; the moment your eyes thanked me, I saw myself in their reflection and I realized then that you had let me in where only a few others have been. 

What was once shrouded in darkness suddenly became clear: this was the side of your heart where you'd hidden all that you've ever feared, all that you've ever lost, all the regrets you've buried and all the memories you've forgot, it's all the nights where you've cried so hard it left you breathless, overwhelmed with disappointment and second guesses, I know it's not easy when every step you take reminds you of a past mistake, when every smile you fake hides the pain you wish you could replace with something other than a burden, the most frustrating thing about love is that it can be so uncertain, it's like a leap of faith. 

So brace yourself because you won't always make it, sometimes you gotta fall face first on the pavement to get a taste of failure, but eventually you’ll learn not to fear it..after all, there are few things in this world more resilient than the human spirit. 

And you know what? It's quite a sight; to look forward to a future brimming with life, a future bathed in colours so bright they'll make your heart soar as if heaven itself was right at your feet.

And i'll be waiting for you there, in the meadow where we first heard those hummingbirds singing; their sweet songs always seem to take me back...back to the beginning."

"The Beginning" - A Spoken Word Poem

There is no end to composer Peter Broderick’s creative output, and so we present to you his new album titled 'All Together Again' — available worldwide on November 17th 2017 via Erased Tapes.

Words from Peter, October 2017:

"Ever since I started releasing records in 2007 (10 years ago now!), people have contacted me periodically to ask if I’d be interested in making music to accompany their projects. Most of these projects have been things like films, dance pieces and theatre plays . . . but every so often I get the odd request for something a little different. Peter, would you write a song for my wedding? My one year anniversary? A ferry boat ride?

In early 2015 I was asked to perform 12 minutes of music during a runway show as part of New York Fashion Week. I agreed and began composing a 12-minute piece which I could perform on my own with a few different instruments and some looping pedals. I made a recording of the piece and sent it over to my contacts at the fashion show . . . but a few days before I was to fly out to New York, they wrote back and told me they actually just wanted me to play a few older songs that they were already familiar with. Feeling slightly disappointed, I shelved the other piece, giving it the title If I Were A Runway Model.

It is with great pleasure that I now present this piece in a collection of commissioned works spanning the last decade . . . it’s All Together Again. This group of oddball works does indeed include a couple pieces written for weddings (Our Future In Wedlock and The Walk), and a song someone asked me to write as a gift for his wife on their first year wedding anniversary (Emily). And indeed, there’s a 17-minute piece written to accompany a ferry boat ride in Istanbul (A Ride On The Bosphorus). A few of the pieces were written for films (Robbie’s Song, Atlantic and Seeing Things), and one for a kind of interactive installation (Unsung Heroes).

In my early days of recording, I took pride in playing all the different instruments myself and doing the recording myself as well. And then at some point I started branching out, working with other musicians and recording engineers. But this record is very dear to me in that it’s a return to that original approach . . . playing all the different instruments myself, working with my limits on each one, and my own limits in recording and mixing. I’ve always held a broad curiosity for all different instruments and all different styles of music, and if nothing else I hope this record will portray that curiosity, and my pure love for this thing we call music. Can you dig it?"

The cover art was made by Peter himself in his hometown of Portland, Oregon, by cutting and sticking different coloured paper fragments to depict the individuality of each track.
