Hii I’m Mabel. I'm a 23 yr old DJ/producer & visual artist. I use she/her and currently I reside in Naarm, known as Melbourne in Australia. 

Describe your walk around where you live

Residential suburbia mixed with really random nature moments. I live in the same suburb I grew up in so it's very familiar and nostalgic. Extremely FLAT landscape until you come across the creek nearby that creates a surprising amount of cliffy bush walks which also is one of Melbourne's most popular doof locations.

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community?

I want to see the scene down here reignite. We lost a lot of clubs over recent years and laws were introduced regarding illegal doofs. The general vibe has lowered a lot post covid. There’s a lot of reminiscing about the parties filled with sweaty dancers, naked bodies, insane outfits, etc. Parties that were just fun and freeing. I hope these things come back. They were definitely the reason I became obsessed with Djing.

On ACEN048, Outsider makes her All Centre debut. Following standout appearances on four Pressure Dome compilations, the Derbyshire-based artist presents two forward-thinking, experimental club tracks.

Good Bone Structure opens with tense rolling snares and a shimmering pad as kick drums articulate the track’s broken rhythm. The arrangement builds to the introduction of a two note bassline which shifts and evolves into new and unpredictable mutations throughout the 7 minute track, underpinned by hard drums and embellished with ecstatic synth melodies.

Stick Shift opens with forceful four to the floor kicks and a dubbed-out, restless chord progression which darts around the percussion. The synth moves and grows, alternating with and reacting to the track’s ricocheting bassline, whilst syncopated claps keep the track’s compelling rhythms in check.

Good Bone Structure is available across all digital platforms on the 26th May.

Where others to the north of the genre’s beginnings are breathing new life into the musical style, Felix Benedikt holds down the fort in the east, deriving his intrinsic link to its forms from the early millennium record-digging. With releases on imprints like Blue Hour, Ute.Rec., his very own Morbid and newly pressed <AIR WAYS> bristling with scrappy basslines, the shape of his mission is sharp in focus, a revival and reconfiguration of those 90s sounds into something modern and loaded with relevance. Striking parallels with the speed of data in our modern landscape could be made with trance’s newfound acceptance, but for Felix it’s something inherently felt.
