Bradley Zero's swashbuckling efforts with Rhythm Section continue to induce pleasure across the office and beyond. His regular soirees at Canavans Pool Hall are typified by the type of loose, one-love community ethos that many club nights would starve for; red neon lit, set time-less and buoyed by an all-encompassing music policy. Naysayers need only check Edd Fisher this Saturday in Peckham. On top of that, the RS discography stockpile is quickly blossoming into a well-nurtured settling for talent; undeterred by genre or location, and instead driven by an unwavering feel good factor. There's already been woozy, drifting deep house from Melbourne's Prequel and the velvety hook up with Vancouver's Mood Hut rep Local Artist to digest. Just six releases in, and the air miles have definitely been totting up.

As the title suggests, RS007 resides a bit closer to home than previous entries. Good Morning Peckham is Henry Wu's (@wuesli) ode to his local area, built around his now recognised style of off-kilter, slacker house. "Dubplate Special" is a special lecture in groove; a marriage between succulent bass sways and radiant Rhodes piano that's oh so ripe for summer.

The first Musik For Autobahns was a delight: softly-softly ambient and subtle cuts from the likes of Move D, Suzanne Kraft, Roman Flügel and plenty more besides. Even amongst Rush Hour's bounty that year, it stood proudly out. A ripple of excitement went through BR HQ upon finding out Gerd Janson was lining up a second, with no shortage of marquee signings all coming correct with their A game.

A number of heads come together to translate these thoughts into sound - from Fort Romeau's Drive-esque "Seleno" joyride through to the propulsive "Melancholy" of Disco Nihilist. Perhaps none elicit as many feels as the enveloping opener from Leon Vynehall though.

As well as being a mesmeric mimic of accelerating down Bundesautobahn 5 at daybreak, "Midnight on Rainbow Road" got our Debut nod for three main reasons: firstly, it kicked off last year's sublime set from Gerd & Ata (so, about time); second, it's a welcome return for Mr Vynehall after a richly deserved breakout year; third, dude's got previous with N64 titling. And that's something we can all get behind.

If Eventually paired up compelling global club rhythms with indie vocals, Let Me Go (feat. Nonku Phiri & Mr. Carmack) further expands on this dynamic by allowing Branko’s trademark pop sensibilities to shine through his dancefloor-ready beats. After spending the day with the talented South African singer Nonku Phiri and L.A.-based producer Mr. Carmack at the Red Bull Studios in Cape Town, South Africa, Branko set out to translate this encounter into a song by pushing the limits of the kizomba offshoot we call zouk bass, introducing some much-needed R&B flavor to this thriving genre.

The story of this encounter is translated into an instrumental that reveals lush and dreamy synths dancing around a shuffling 90 BPM beat with an organic feel, built on Branko’s wide-ranging global influences and Mr. Carmack’s unique beatmaking skills, to which Nonku Phiri’s captivating Venda and English vocals add a level of depth and emotion that is further complemented by a bittersweet string arrangement (recorded at Red Bull Studios in New York) - with positively epic results.

A key member of the Pacific Northwest’s small, but dedicated, group of electronic innovators, Joey Butler aka Kid Smpl has spent the past several years developing a unique aesthetic that draws from Japanese video game music as much as it does UK soundsystem culture. Initially garnering widespread attention in 2012 with a flurry of EPs and the sound-defining Skylight LP on Seattle’s Hush Hush Records, Kid Smpl has seen a meteoric rise over the past several years for an artist who, defiantly, does not function as a traditional dance music artist. By taking strains of familiar genres, aesthetics and eras, Kid Smpl reaches into the deepest recesses of your memory to elicit, not just nostalgia, but an acute sense of the past, present and future.

An alumni of Red Bull Music Academy 2013, Kid Smpl has spent the past several years honing his craft and performing with a who’s who of on-the-fringe artists/sound designers, sharing stages with Andy Stott, Oneohtrix Point Never, Evian Christ and more. In the meantime, Butler has managed to contribute to XLR8R’s podcast series, perform live for KEXP and play taste making festivals like SXSW and Decibel Festival. Recently, he’s joined Kastle’s Symbols stable, releasing the deeply affecting Precinct EP for the Los Angeles outfit. And where Butler’s work with Hush Hush had a deeply discerning, elegiac quality to it, his recent output has taken a turn towards physical rhythmic elements and noisy, brash sound design, a marked turn, but one that feels innately natural.

Elements of his influences (Burial, Emptyset, J Dilla) can still be found in the Kid Smpl sound, but Butler has managed to develop an aesthetic that is all his own, pushing a cold, futuristic assemblage that is as delicate as it is world smashing. His live set encapsulates that perfectly, a 100% original journey through memory, futurism and technological decline, guided by the occasional breakbeat or square wave. Butler is currently working on a follow-up to Precinct, set for a Fall release on Symbols. Several years after breaking into the electronic music world’s consciousness, Kid Smpl can be viewed as a true original and the development of his sound over the next several years be a site to behold.

Not much is known of Zap Francis, and the little that we do know only seems to shroud Zap further in mystery. Fragments from the self-titled Zap Francis EP first dropped onto our laps in Black Milk's Boiler Room set last summer. On being asked where Mr. Milk discovered the tracks dropped in his set, he laid it down as simply as "Zap Francis gave them to me." So who is this Zap guy, and why's it taken over a year for his big (D/)debut to surface?

Though we wish we had the answers, what we can confirm is that it was well worth the wait. Zap Francis - forthcoming on Bleep's own label - embodies multiple dimensions of modern-age instrumental hip hop. The EP's beatsy opening track, "Scuffer", sets the mood instantly, with clickety-click shuffles of the hi-hat and a persistent, undulating synth line overhead. Zap marks his breakthrough on a strong footing that - we pray - will keep the momentum going for many more releases to come.

Ransom Note's recent signing Bawrut has been making a bit of a name for himself. His debut Ciquita, which was released earlier this year, has already been devoured by the likes of Jackmaster, Optimo and Boys Noize like a crazed bunch of acid fiends, and the summer season happened to be super fruitful for the Madrid based, Italian born tune-wrangler. We know, intense. It's a piping hot acidic screamer specially crafted for peak times on the dance floor and you get to listen to it right here, right now.

"Rumba" is taken from The Rumba EP, which will be released on Ransom Note Records as a 12" on November 22. His debut EP Ciquita sold out instantly, so don't sleep — you can preorder the album using the 'Buy' link.

Bawrut "Rumba" - Boiler Room Debuts

Fresh new Bristol-based label @piff-records open their doors armed with a slew of gleaming, steaming hot wax. We got our mitts on the new To Adelaide EP featuring a compilation of fine Australian talent. Out highlight comes as "Jessica's Place", which offers nothing less than pure smouldering synth-house heaven from (fairly) newcomer @arthurmilesmusic.

Though still relatively unknown across the pond, Arthur has funnily enough already made his Boiler Room debut, as part of the Untzz 12 Inch showcase last April. With his newness on Piff, expect the distinct, dreamscape sound that fellow house producers down under have worked hard to establish (for more, see: Mall Grab and Francis Inferno Orchestra). A clean track with an ever-so-slightly futuristic sound that is sure to grab your attention — as it did with ours. Give it a spin.

"Jessica's Place" will be released as part of a compilation entitled To Adelaide EP on 12" in 21st November. There are only 500 copies available, so pre-order it quick!

The phrase 'one-of-a-kind' perhaps gets thrown around too much these days, but those that already know Auntie Flo (née Brian D'Souza) will join me in saying this is no overstatement. Building a reputation for having one of the most sonically eclectic and captivating live shows, and the revered ability to combine acoustic and electronic elements like no other, Auntie Flo has been excelling at his own game for a minute now.

And now, Auntie Flo is back with a new EP to feed our hungry souls with his beats inspired the sounds of the universe. This project, already with Four Tet's backing, is the product of D'Souza's yearning to share his love of traditional African rhythms, and a wish to bring them to the world's stage. Here, he employs an impressive array of session musicians and a Ugandan ten-string harp, recording it all at the Santuri Studios as part of the Ugandan Bayimba arts festival in Kamapala last year.

"Rainfall on Red Earth" is available in its full 16-minute beauty as part of The Soniferous Garden EP, which will be released in full exclusively on vinyl by Sofrito early next year.

Having wowed tastemakers across the board with her debut album, “Barefoot In Your Kitchen”, in 2012 (Gilles Peterson made it his Album of the Week a year ago) saucy songstress and culinary linguist Bev Lee Harling returns with a one-off single covering one of her favourite songs of all time.

The Peggy Lee classic, “Why Don’t You Do Right?”, was recorded by many artists in the 1950’s and 60’s, including Della Reese, whose version provided the inspiration for this take, but seemed to have become a bit of a forgotten gem for contemporary recording artists, until now that is.

This limited edition 7-inch release features a pair of cracking mixes from two of Europe’s finest production outfits with an ear for a classic tune and a touch of jazz.

Italy’s Suonho has found fame recently with his tasteful edits, on-point remixes and his recent re-versions of Brazilian classics. Here he takes Bev’s interpretation to the dance floor with a bass heavy four-to-the-floor mix that will please jazz and house heads alike.

On the flip, our very own Colman Brothers are back, adding a little of their trademark ‘Cha Cha’ magic to Bev’s sassy vocals, and creating a mid-tempo shuffler that should please fans of both them and the lady herself!

The original vocal version is also available via an accompanying digital package, and should help stave off the hunger for more Bev Lee Harling material until her new album drops in early 2014.
