Brett return with astral lead single, "Claire Drained," and news of their sophomore album, Mode. Across the record's 10 tracks, Brett's songwriting magic is undeniable. Pop jams come to life in 3D, swirling the senses and putting the mind into motion.

Unlike previous material, Mode inspirations are diverse, owing more to multimedia art than romance, namely Jean-Luc Godard’s recent film, Goodbye to Language. “The defining quote for me was: ‘For women, it's only sex and death. For men, it's only infinity and zeroes,’” said vocalist Mick Coogan. “It’s a fairly opaque statement, but I think the irony lies in assigning absolutes to human relationships, which can be so beautiful and inspiring. At the same time, the fundamental differences between men and women are very real and that shit is difficult to figure out.” In a more abstract way, the light installations of James Turrell also influenced the musical contours of the album. 

The album’s art was created as a large-scale painting by LA artist, Charley Alexander, using abstracted patterns, shapes and color scales, and then cut into 50 squares, each of which will be sold with limited edition pre-order copies of the vinyl record.

Well-read. Consider myself quite the bibliophile, actually, yet there’s likely only a handful of books that I have “stuck-it-out” for, and really read to their fullest of entirety, at least voluntarily that is. Books are just f**king challenging to finish—most things are, in my opinion—challenging when there are so goddamn many books and so goddamn many things both to read and to do. I’m currently mopping floors and collecting trash bags. But philosophically and especially existentially I’m content and have just as little ambition at life as when I started. Handsome looks as much as handsome in wit. A Socialist I VOTE DEMOCRAT. Everyone cross your fingers, as we’re still waiting for that catastrophic gardening accident to happen in one of the white house flower beds.  ** And I’m not really wishing anything truly awful on to anyone, no matter what, instead just staying hopeful for some whimsical, shameful accident. That moment where the guy fell back and on to a cucumber or handle of his backhoe or some other big misery, where he gets humbled down a few notches.
