My contribution to the 10-year anniversary @outtallectuals compilation, "Liminal Lore". Bison Valley was highly influenced by the book "After the Ice: A Global Human History, 20,000-5000 BC" by Steven Mithen, and learning about the potential daily lives before all the great civilisations.

10 years on from the conception of Outtallectuals and evolution into an international label, we're delighted to still be here, finetuning our vision & signature sound in an eternal creative soup. 'Liminal Lore' celebrates OUTTA's first decade through a predictably collaborative roster, featuring the label regulars and new contributors. 

The concept of 'Lore' is sonified in the 'old world' influences of the album; through the sounds of nature, bulbul tarang, banjo, g clarinet, darbuka, hang drum, dulcimer, sarangi, slide guitars, violins, flutes, leaves, stones, brushes, hymnal singing & tribal percussions. 'Liminality' is, of course, through the celebration of a shifting decade, an in-between milestone for the label.

I wrote this track specifically for my first outdoor event this past weekend at Cherokee Farms in GA. I knew the grounds where this event took place played a big roll in the Native Cherokee Tribes history. I produced this song as an offering to those Native Spirits in hopes that they would resonate with my respect and reverence for things forgotten. The song is to represent a rain storm moving through the dry land. Starts out slow and then the raindance begins. The climax of the song represents the storm and then the rest of the song is the storm moving out. I would like to thank these Spirits for listening and responding the way that they did. My life has been forever changed.

As the label celebrates its 10th release, Moon By Day continues to solidify its reputation as a platform for dreamy, downtempo electronica and acoustic beats. At its core, the label showcases music from the heart, inspired from all around the world, and the debut EP from Louis Tobin aka MOONTIDE continues to embody this philosophy. As the EP title suggests, the Melbourne-based producer takes us on a journey of his 27th year, not only emotionally but also physically, with the tracks recorded between Central America and Australia’s Mornington Peninsula. Varied, yet coherent, Tobin explores the boundaries of downtempo electronica with this milestone release for the label. 

Opening the EP is the sexy, yet emotive Amore, with its slinky, seductive pace and layers of string samples. With melancholy chords and cinematic crescendos, Broken is a high-energy, breakbeat- influenced cut, conveying a range of complex emotions. Lolite is both beautiful and driving with its heartbeat-esque rhythm and dramatic vocal samples. Both meditative and slightly eerie, The Only Wanderers is somewhat of a nod to the producer’s spirituality with its pulsating percussion and layered instrument samples from the didgeridoo through to the sitar.
