About:
Obscura marks the fifth full length studio album by Plaster excluding collaborative, live and split albums. Written between 2019 and 2022, Obscura is the result of a very deep research of Gianclaudio Hashem Moniri in both composition and sound design’s world. The fifteen tracks which build the album are splitted into two parts, A and 𝝮.
According to Gianclaudio, the concept of the compositions is based on the feminine world, to its darkest and brightest side, to Its power and delicacy but also refers to the death of Mahsa Amini in Iran and the following Iranian protests. The tracks are filled with elements of protest messages, words of hope, stories of femicide, fragments and tributes of the imaginary feminine world of Gianclaudio.
The sound is clearly a step forward into the Plaster’s production, we can hear a lot of new inputs, like poetry, distorted guitars, vocals used as the main instrument, but on the other side, Obscura brings back the memories of early works. There’s a lot of passion and cohesion between the tracks and this is not an album which aims for fast listenings or streaming skipping.
Obscura will be released by Textvra in spring 2023 via limited printed canvas (22 copies in memory of the age of Mahsa Amini) and worldwide digital distribution as well.

Emission 19 is a recording of Bill Converse’s whip-crack body mover of a vinyl set live from Surface Tension on March 3, 2017. It’s a headlong dive down the acid bobsled track that kept us throwing crazed shapes into the wee hours and we’re oh so grateful to be able to share it with you.

Bill Converse hails from Austin, Texas and has releases on Dark Entries and Texas Recordings Underground. His new project, Tide Eman, has a record forthcoming on Active Cultures.

Surface Tension Podcast 19- Bill Converse

Percussive patch featuring a Cwejman RG-6 as the rhythmical brain. A trio of Cwejman FSH-1, RM-2S and MMF-1S are used as sound sources, modulating each other, and shifting between skin-type sounds and glassy or metallic tones. The FSH-1 is wiggled between ring-mod and freq-shift modes. The MMF-1 is in dual slope mode and its spacing and resonance are modulated by the RG-6. The RG-6 also modulates the rate and lag of a Cwejman NS-1. The S&H output of the NS-1 is routed to one of the audio inputs of the FSH-1. The gate output of the RG-6 triggers a CV-CTG that feeds a percussive pulse to the other input of the FSH-1. A Turing machine is synced to the RG-6 and locked into patterns, its Seq output modulating the pitch of the MMF-1S.

Recorded straight into ProTools via a RND 5059 summing mixer and Prism ADA-8XR. No overdubbing. Bit of Reverb (Adaptiverb) and limiting (Ozone 7) added.

~ About The Story ~

The sacred presence of Brahman, or the Supreme Divine Reality, is there in God, what is called Ishvara or the cosmic lord. Yet it is also present in the soul or reincarnating entity, what is called the Jiva as our higher Self. And, it is present in the world of nature, Jagat. God, soul and the world are aspects of One Reality, but not in a limited way. Each shares the entirety of the underlying Reality. Each is sacred and holds the same deeper nature of Being, Consciousness and Bliss (Sat-chit-ananda). This vision of unity is the basis for an ecological approach in which we can honour the entire universe as part of our own higher Self. For AI-21, Italian duo The Abyss Within Us enters the fold. The project, consisting of Claudio Porceddu (Claudio PRC) and Stefano Ferrari (menion), combines lush ambient textures with beguiling mysticism. Originally performed in Ankali, Prague, the rich and expansive ‘Life in a Circle’ constitutes a 2-part journey deep into darker, farther places. Chasmic frequencies hark back to an ancient ritualism, punctuated by uplifting moments breathing with elegiac grandeur.
