"I was thinking about an abandoned space. Maybe somewhere in the outskirts of a small city. A yard full of every possible junk. Dogs running around chewing on car seats and toys by a farmer’s field. It has a nostalgic feeling to me. People drive by places like that. 

It’s not really a village. There is no community. People live there but in a unique lifestyle, not to settle down, but to go through a journey. 
I wanted this mix to be introspective. Something that I would dance to alone in my room, exploring my inner thoughts. It’s like peering through a crack in the wall until the eyes get used to the darkness. I would listen to this mix while getting my fortune read."

The radio ecosystem is a nest for some the most knowledgeable music enthusiasts. When combined with a deep knowledge of dance floors, a sens of community and initiative, and a talent for selection, it is a nest for some of the best artists.

Seb H is one of these. Rotterdam is a city of rich music culture, and scene with an identity of its own. As every city, it faces change, and with it the birth of new talents. Actively involved in the @operator.radio community, running the @hiddenrooms_ club night and radio show along side @danny___hill (big shouts) and the @40hz.roffa night series, Seb has been offering his time and passion to the culture.

But let’s come back to the music, because on that front, we are inviting for this first episode of Polychrome Radio of 2024 a very fine selector. One that can be trusted to have the music needed for the moment, with an identity residing not in the sound but in the quality and consistency of the journeys.

For this episode, Seb H offered us a captivating techno podcast. It is a difficult genre to mix. All in subtle energy control and groove. It is here mastered. The needles trip around those records bring life to the recording, adding to the tension and pleasing releases. This selection would have made a beautiful dance in the basement that we all know and miss already.

A testament to his affection for electro sounds paired with a machine aesthetic and love as a pursuit.

@isabel-wiltenburg has been shining her way through our communities for some time now. Leading the Nightlife Care Network - a support platform for our nights - she offers us her deep nightlife expertise, inspiring empathy and friendship, making our practice grow on and off the dance floor. Because it is there that her research in the night starts, as a dancer. One that fully experiences music, soaking in the energies and sounds, while defining her own.

Exploring bass frequencies and UK influenced club music, ISA W perfectly paces the rhythm and is open to merging cultures through sounds. After recording a beautiful episode of RPU’s Aquatic Gardens and blessing  the Surface Massief night at Noord Space , Isabel is taking the reins of Polychrome Radio for an hour through her collection, and we are honored.

It’s refreshing to feel such care and vision for music and the cultures that surround it. We first discovered @Lula_Luna as an artist through her listening selections—whether played on radio shows or released on her own SoundCloud.

A certain sensitivity shines through her sets. Her selections spark the imagination and inspire new flows. From ambient escapes to dub-infused electronics, there’s a grounding element that ties her sound together—understated yet powerful.

As part of the Possibilities Open Studio crew, Lou has been exploring her creative self by curating events that move the needle, while researching music aesthetics and experiences. Alongside this beautiful cover shot by Mark Loopstra, she shared with us a few nature photographs taken in Gran Canaria. A soft visual reminder that sounds require space and time.
