Following a bit of a hiatus after the release of his beautifully crafted, second EP, Drømmeland with @coastal-haze, @Fruitdj is back and kicking. 

Originally from Iceland, but currently based in Denmark Fruit has made a name for himself in the Copenhagen club scene with his erudite DJing and live-sets. We’re stoked to have him on for our 23rd mix in the series, in anticipation of his forthcoming (and much hyped) third EP release this spring.

Test subject 1.25 @allurein of the beloved @neurocrankk collective, unearths a primordial dance between the hunter and it’s prey as they weave through an aberrant, glitching biosphere. A true narrative of survival where tension rises and falls as the hunt plays out through alien flora.

“I made the visual prompt my lock screen first and foremost, so that I’d be met with it every day. Any time I was listening to music it was right there; either to remind me to be listening for certain sounds I associated with the visual, or so that the visual would be so deeply engrained in my mind that I was always listening to music with a lens directly associated with the visual. 

I developed this sort of sci-fi story, of predator and prey that I felt came as a consequence of this relationship between the lushness of the visual; and the striking contrast of the sharp, grey, almost extra-terrestrial intrusions. Notwithstanding the embarrassment factor, it helped me create a narrative that I felt the interplay of songs could tell. 

I tried to imagine the strange sounds and animals that might arise, the ups and downs of my participation: haste, fear, exhilaration, and brief moments of tranquillity. As I said, it’s pretty embarrassing, but honestly it brought the visual to life and meant when looking for music, these were all the ways I wanted it to make me feel.

For me, the mix conveyed a story of survival in this glitched-out rainforest – a strange subsection prompting the discernment of what is artificial in an environment that was seemingly so close to a rainforest here on earth.”

Social distancing guidelines have been extended to low Earth orbit and as a result the Space Cadets have had to record this show separately. Lisene kicks things off with 60 minutes of cosmic chuggers, chillers and thrillers before Adam Pits picks up the pace in the second hour with a fast, floor-focused blend of the Cadets' usual psychedelic fare.

Something to warm you up as the days get colder... my set from our June event in memory of our beloved resident and friend Alex T, live and direct from the basement of Wire. 

I played second to last and hadn't heard loud music in months so was about 12 sheets to the wind by this point - cue an unplanned smush of over excited mixing and super loose track selection 🙃

As always, a combination of long-forgotten oldskool tunes and tracks from mates with a couple of party bangers slipped in for good measure.

Feline Fine has been on a consistent up and up in the Naarm world. His passion and pride for not only the Melt events he helps curate, but for the whole of the Naarm scene is emblematic of his driven and supportive nature. His djing follows suit, reflective of his omnipresent existence that sees him up with the latest no matter what the genre, electronic or otherwise (check out willis’ punk rock band @sandydish!). This mix drops itself seamlessly in and out of deep, progressive pockets; before ultimately culminating at an good old fashioned euphoric trance ending. Enjoy x
