8ball - Drum N Bass Therapy - Part 5

This could be my favourite recorded set.  I've definately recorded heavier soundsystem flexers but this is more of my love letter to Disco and its progression into house.  This is the first 2.5 ish hours of a 3 hour club set- the "after party" for a Tight Hair live disco set.  When i saw the dance floor tight hair had I knew the crowd was up for it, they had the place packed and grooving.  Playing after a live disco band opened the door for me to play almost 2 hours of my favourite disco edits and proto house, before it was obvious the crowd wanted more- so I bumped it up to a housier vibe before tearing into some garage- which is where this mix ends.  I'm unbelievably grateful to the crowd who was with me the whole time in a tight, intimate environment, great sound and tons of friends.  This one is special to me.  Hope you enjoy!

DJPrimitive Solid Gold 01.13.2024

In an effort to diversify and challenge myself, I've dove into the world of house music . It's only taken me about 20 years...  It feels like most dj's start with house music, so I guess I'm a bit backwards. Shrug?

This one was surprisingly challenging for me as I basically had to dive head first into a whole new, absolutely massive genre of music. Although it generally fits the "four on the floor' formula, the diversity is quite impressive. There is truly SO MUCH of it out there! Because of that, I found it sometimes difficult to carve out the good from the bad. I do feel like I became a better dj through creating this one. 

Here are some of my selections that fit the upbeat but laid back vibe I was going for. Perfectly suited for background music while you do your House Keeping. Funk house done proper. This is happy music y'all!

I want to give a huge shout out to the lovely Jessica for the original artwork. I gave her the fun and silly idea of random animals doing the housekeeping while the dj is rocking tunes in the basement. She absorbed the idea and took it from there. There is so much to look at in this painting! Take your time! This mix was actually recorded quite some time ago, but I knew I wanted to wait for her art to be complete prior to release. So glad I did!
