Welcome to the final edition of the Midgar Records takeover. Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the Berlin-based label took over our mix series for the entirety of September, showcasing work from some of the label's closest affiliates including Aa Sudd, Tammo Hesselink and Keplrr. To round things off, we have label founder Severja contributing a mix that highlights his breadth of influences that are also channeled through Midgar Records output. The mix spans across drum & bass, wonked-out techno, trippy percussive rhythms and trance-like soundscapes. The session also ties in nicely with our 200th mix!

Founded in 2014, Severja launched Midgar Records as a label that leaves the trends behind and instead focuses on bringing together a melting pot of artists who are pushing music forward through their modern take on techno that showcases the soundscapes mentioned above. In the label's bio on Soundcloud it says, 'a sound that tells stories as people dance'.  Launching on a very strong foot with the first release by Wata Igarashi, Midgar Records has since gone on to house records from the likes of Ruff Cherry, Von Grall, Forest Drive West, Retina.it, natural/electronic.system., Priori, Agonis, Tammo Hesselink, Polygonia, OK EG and many more. In addition to the releases, Severja has taken the label and its artists around the world with showcases in Krakow, Tokyo, Seoul, Berlin, Barcelona, Medellin, Oslo, and Milan to name a few.

To accompany the final mix in the takeover, we spoke to Severja about how it feels reaching the 10th anniversary of the label, how Midgar has evolved over the years, experiences bringing the label to club spaces, the story behind signing Wata Igarashi for the first record and the inspirations behind the label's curation and art direction.

Untitled 909 Podcast 200: Severja (Midgar Records Takeover)

Next up in our mix series is Shoal, a Dutch producer and DJ who recently relocated to Prague. Known for his hypnotic, emotionally layered sound, Shoal crafts deep, transportive journeys through trippy textures, modular synthesizers, and rolling rhythms. A core member of the ISOTOOP collective, he’s performed at leading underground spots like De School, Tresor, and Ratherlost. His releases on labels like Tikita, Harmony Recordings, Monument, our own Ute.Rec, and most recently Animalia, continue to expand and refine his unique sonic voice within the scene.

In this mix, Shoal delivers a 1.5-hour live set full of acid-dripping techno, spacey atmospheres, and heads-down minimalism. It’s a slow-burning, carefully building mix that captures the raw live sounds and subtle depth that define his sound. A live-set working just as much the mind as the body.

Hyperterranean #031 with Aa Sudd

A driving force of rhythm from Brazil’s underground, RHR (@rhrmusiq) grew up in the favelas of São Paulo, where the raw pulse of the streets, from the directness of rap to the fire of funk and the thunder of drums, became the foundation of his life and the essence of his sound. It’s a sonic DNA that makes his work impossible to imitate. Whether channelling techno infused with grime, or reworking bass, dancehall, electro and baile funk, he bends each form into something feral and untamed, igniting heat and blood rush on the dancefloor.

To date, RHR has released five solo EPs, each one a kind of sonic document, mapping the layered histories and realities of São Paulo and translating them into electrifying soundscapes. Alongside collaborations with Mamba Rec, Omnidisc, Pac Recs and Nice and Deadly, he is also a core member of New York’s TIJOLO Records, leaving a distinct imprint across the global underground network.

On his birthday, we are honoured to share this special mix, a journey deep into Brazilian culture, both rugged and refined, primal yet intricate. It stands as a mirror to the country’s underground: wild, turbulent, and utterly magnetic.

One of New York’s most romantic and exhilarating electronic sounds, DJ Python (@worldwideunlimited) makes his debut this year on XL Recordings with the EP "i was put on this earth". On this record, he gently forays into uncharted territory as a singer, producer, and collaborator, an evolution made all the more impressive in light of his groundbreaking musical projects to date, such as "Mas Amble", "Angel", and "Club Sentimientos Vol. 2". While splitting his time between New York and London, Python has teamed up with a diverse set of collaborators, including South London rapper Jawnino, Honduran-born powerhouse Isabella Lovestory, unclassifiable songwriter Organ Tapes, and NYC mainstay Physical Therapy. Across the five-track EP, Python shares bold solo songs alongside these intriguing collaborations. The project retains the captivating melodies, atmospheric textures, and rhythmic innovation that defined Python's earlier recordings, while building on and shaping these signature elements into ambitious and addictive new compositions.

A resident behind the decks at Nowadays, New York’s seminal club, DJ Python has developed a limitless-speed style defined by playful invention and masterful mixing. The everyday fades under the sway of his tropical, primal beats, arranged with a precision that conjures an otherworldly atmosphere. Skies are painted in hues only he could create, with transitions that awaken the senses, blending sophistication with vitality, chaotic yet meditative, making it impossible not to move.

His albums and mixes have earned praise from Pitchfork, Resident Advisor, Crack Magazine, and beyond, cementing his position as a boundary-pushing force in contemporary electronic music and securing his place on year-end lists worldwide.

Sausha (@sonicmaid) doesn’t just make music — she mutates it. As a DJ, she is known for her frenetic, high-energy sets, dense with texture and disparate influences. With her debut EP, she opts to turn inward, translating the kinetic energy of the booth into something more intimate and uncanny. The result is a collection of tracks best swallowed without a chaser, their bitter aftertaste becoming addictive by the second or third dose. Born in Colombia, raised in Miami, sharpened in New York’s underground, and now a core force behind Halcyon Veil’s left-field sound, her sonic world is a collision of perreo sweat, punk rage, and DJ-born instinct. Her sets, described by FACT as "a high-velocity rush of sleaze, sweat, and sirens," have cemented her as a global fixture in the experimental club scene.

@Bapari’s fourth EP, evermore, is now streaming on Halcyon Veil. The project marks a bold new chapter in the Haitian-American producer’s sonic evolution. For the first time, Bapari steps into the role of vocalist, weaving their voice into live instrumentation with raw, layered vulnerability.

Known for blurring the lines between electronic, ambient, and percussive club forms—including production on the latest FKA twigs album, Euxesua—bapari fuses a range of genres, from shoegaze to trip-hop to electronic, to craft their most personal work to date.

The choice to pick up the mic is a natural one for a club artist who’s always been fascinated by the expressive potential of vocals—from their earliest edits of pop stars and rappers like Beyoncé, Cassie, and Vanessa Carlton to collaborations with Lolahol and Kidä on their third EP, Oasis (Halcyon Veil, 2023). Evermore’s release has already taken bapari on a seven-city European tour, with debuts in Lisbon, Milan, Venice, and Athens. Now based in their hometown of Los Angeles after half a decade in New York, look out for bapari’s new live show, debuting in the U.S. for the first time at Nerve LA on June 20.

Bapari’s previous releases have been featured in publications such as Mixmag, Resident Advisor, Interview, Dancewax, Flaunt, DJ Mag, and Paper. They are a five-time Boiler Room headliner and have hosted the monthly show Puffy on NTS Radio since 2019. bapari has collaborated on performances, soundtracks, and campaigns with a range of brands and designers, including Barragán, YSL Beauty, I.AM.GIA, On Running, Levi’s, No Sesso, New Balance, Red Bull, and Ōura. Their DJing has taken them from the warehouses of downtown L.A. and Brooklyn to clubs across Europe, Australia, Japan, and Mexico, as well as events at museums such as MOCA L.A. and the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London.

A leading figure in Taiwan’s underground techno scene for over a decade, described by Resident Advisor as one of the world’s greatest techno DJs. This mix was recorded live at Tresor Klubnacht this August, his weightless form of techno glows with a natural energy, moving with aerodynamic precision.

@Diskonnected is the creative mastermind, and the principal DJ of the well-known Smoke Machine collective. Formerly a resident at Taipei’s legendary Korner, he now holds residencies at its successor Pawnshop, and at Hong Kong’s renowned 宀 Mihn.

Throughout his decade-long career, Diskonnected has been the foundational person developing, shaping, and sculpting the Smoke Machine sound and is the musical nucleus of Taiwan’s Organik Festival, one of the world’s most respected techno gatherings. A musical chameleon, he adapts his sound to each environment, generating boundless energy on the dance floor, he has toured widely across Asia, Europe, and the USA, and has played has played at prestigious clubs such as Berghain, Tresor and Nowadays.

PURE Guest.095 Diskonnected

In the space where sound is stripped to its essential form, new worlds emerge. For our latest podcast, we welcome Hitam, an artist who operates as a true sonic architect, sculpting sound from its most granular elements. His work masterfully bridges the worlds of deep techno and avant-garde experimentalism, finding profound power not in overwhelming force, but in restrained intensity. The Amsterdam based producer’s ultra finessed sounds have been released on the likes of Hayes, Somov, SYXT as well a string of exceptional recent releases on his own Rhiza Semar label. As a DJ he serves as a resident at the infamous Eerste Communie parties, as well as playing legendary institutions like Tresor, Bassiani, De School and more. 

“For this mix I wanted to trace a descent through shifting temporal layers; beginning in a state of suspension, slowly moving into trance-inducing motion before dissolving again into the subterranean. It travels from fluid, hypnotic rhythm into zones of disorientation and release; a process of acceleration, collapse, and renewal. Recorded as a continuous narrative rather than a set, it mirrors my current pull toward a landscape where ancient ritual and submerged hypnosis blend into an organic accelerated pulse where momentum and meditation intertwine beneath the surface.”

Forget relentless peaks, this is techno that demands deep immersion, challenging yet deeply rewarding, a deep trip of tension and release on a microscopic level. A tale of masterfully executed cerebral hypnosis, told across two chapters of disintegration through terrains that feel simultaneously ancient and futuristic. A dialogue between soil and circuitry, pulse and void.
