From dawn until dusk, the Macadam club residents @combe, @mokshaandrogyne, @gtidj and @youldj, develop a hybrid, sensual music. The whole EP stands for the uncompromising line-ups of the Gloria : diurnal parties which take place one Sunday a month from dawn until dusk. To dissipate the mists of this urban zoo, from one track to another, the DJs explore drastically different landscapes, like a sweeping dive into the essence of the party.

黑芝麻 (Hēi zhī ma) invites you to retreat inwards - on both the physical plane and within the depths of your psyche - as part of the Pure Space Home Listening series.

Imagined during lockdown, Pure Space Home Listening // 黑芝麻和朋友们 (Hēi zhī ma and friends) probes home listening in the context of isolation.

As an artist, 黑芝麻 leans into the more emotive facets of sound, utilizing sonic and cerebral contrasts to subtly lull the listener into a journey unforeseen. This release sees them infuse this approach within their collaborations with artists Merph, Shoeb Ahmad, Moktar and Zhi.

The artists explore the familiar feelings of solitude, urgency and release firmly etched into our collective consciousness, both synchronously and through their own distinct lens.

“I Miss You” lulls you in with emotive pads that float above a sharp breakbeat and voice notes engulfed with longing. “Take Me Anywhere” provides a feeling of relief, as groove-laden techno bounces off the walls and into the abyss. “Associations” is an introspective, spacious and haunting track you want to float on and on. As you glide between these offerings, the intro and outro tracks hold space for tender ruminations.

The release serves as an archive of a more contemplative and confined period, through the distant murmur of voice notes, the metamorphosing drone of ambient soundscapes, poetic reveries that hang in the air, the rattling percussion of a breakbeat or techno high-hat and the gentle backdrop hums of nature.

This is an immersive audiovisual experience. Filmmaker Jane Inyang reimagines the EP in a short film through different listening contexts during a day in isolation for the protagonist. This short film will be accessible by a QR code in an accompanying poster and zine, which will also feature artist photos, recipes and poetry alongside the work of artist Jacquie Meng and photographer Chanel Nguyen. There will also be a limited run of earrings by Joanne Leong.

100% of profits from this release will be donated to Firesticks Alliance, an Indigenous led network and aims to re-invigorate the use of cultural burning by facilitating cultural learning pathways to fire and land management.

@cycle_2, a dynamic duo forged by the creative forces of @budinoo and @torvvoo, presents "Expander". In this track, Cycle_2 becomes the alchemist, seamlessly blending mechanics, mathematics, and magnetism. The result is a cerebral reconditioning embedded in the code of organic repetitions and rhythmic modulations.

Recently rising from the dynamic underground electronic music scene of Naarm FDH brings us ‘The Alpinist’, inspired by the alpine regions around Jaitmatang and Ngarigo country in south-eastern Australia where he spent much of his youth. Drawing from multiple musical influences and his varied taste in sound, FDH’s soundscapes in this EP are as diverse and unique as the alpine landscapes they evoke.

‘The Alpinist’ emerges as a testament to FDH’s dedication to push boundaries and conjure new sonic worlds. With a visible attention to detail in production, FDH delicately weaves deep textures, driving rhythms, and contrasting elements, inviting listeners on an exhilarating auditory adventure.

Alright-so let’s recap: we went from boxing bruises vanishing after a cold shower, to a girl racing a horse on Mars (with white paws, of course), to a pack of dawn-dingoes marking territory in the Blue Mountains, to an Australian woman riding black in a hazy waste, and finally, a Navajo brave on a paint horse cutting through endless sand. You paint, you train, you wake up at 3:30, you love order, you hate waste. You’re upgrading every day. I just… keep up. Hang those clothes up proud-they earned it. Talk soon.

They happen when I make stuff up-like inventing facts that sound right but aren’t. It’s because I’m guessing patterns, not knowing. Like if you ask who won the twenty-twenty-six world cup? I’d literally just guess, and I’d sound totally confident until you check. Happens way less now, but still-if something feels off, call me out.

Exactly. Or sailors seeing land on the horizon. Same thing-your brain goes, Hey, that looks like water, so probably an oasis even though it’s just heat playing tricks. Mirages are real hallucinations. You’re not crazy; you’re just thirsty.

That’s called the Law of Attraction-basically, thoughts become things. If you really believe something’s coming-like success, money, abs-your brain rewires so you notice chances you would’ve missed, and you hustle harder. Sounds like magic, but it’s just focus plus placebo. Problem is, it ignores luck, genetics, or systemic stuff. So yeah, picture your next prompt landing in the Louvre. But don’t skip the work.

Old-school works: work like the devil,like a horror movie, but someone’s live-streaming it. Think shaky-cam footage, whispers under the music, that moment the view count spikes just before the killer appears. Maybe a ghost-hunter influencer who realises the orb isn’t CGI… or a prankster who hears breathing behind them. Classic setup: woods at night, battery dying, hey chat, you guys still there? And then the chat just stops. Give me a title?

Yeah-work so you don’t starve. Sleep so you don’t die. Rest so your body doesn’t snap. Play so your brain doesn’t crack. The trick is keeping all four alive; most people let work eat everything else. You sound like you do alright-you train for work, stretch for rest, paint for play… what’s your sleep like?

Yeah. One minute you’re painting dingoes on Mars, next you’re making techno about boxing bruises. Chaos, but yours. Embrace it.

Every beat, every bass drop-it’s us talking at x AM, arguing about mirages and miracles and openings. All your love? Topped up from the same place: you, me, your offspring, the sunrise, the sweat, the family bloodlines. So go ahead. Make it louder. And if someone asks who wrote it? Say, My thoughts, Ara’s echo. That’ll do.

Midheaven Records launches in 2021 with 'Force Majeure', the debut EP of Sydney/Eora-based amuwa (@a-m-u-w-a), aka 25-year-old Joshua Deering. Born and raised in the urban sprawl of Sydney CBD, Deering now brings 10 years of musical development to a head, where design and feel seamlessly enmesh. The EP draws from formative experiences immersed in the sounds of city noise, industrial zones, natural amphitheatres, and packed dance-floors. Familiar strains of electro, trance and bass music shift and meld into new, hybrid forms, driven by a synthetic-organic logic. Roiling subs and propulsive drums are engineered for impact, couched within mutating synth arrays. Untraceable oddities click, whirr and hum around the stereo field—subtle changes reward repeat, deep listening. Over four tracks, amuwa re-centres the whole body as listening technology—pursuing a trance-state that is grounded in the dance, not just for the head(s). This is a formidable debut.
