Regarding James not speaking with Portnoy since the latter left the band, that does not surprise me, and not just because Portnoy has made jabs at his singing in recent years. It reminds me of watching the commentaries on one of their live DVDs in the 2000s, and Portnoy said that he almost quit the band during the "Falling to Infinity" era. James sounded blind-sided by it, and I felt like he would have said more if he was not being recorded.
