An album inspired by evocative locations in the UK. Using a variety of digital instruments and techniques, the music is a semi improvisational response to landscape, encapsulating the feeling of place and time in an abstract, open and non-directed way.

So we started some philosophical conversations and I re-recorded the mix a few times, by the end of the 3rd bottle of wine we decided that mix is good and that it sounds like something Viktor Tsoy would listen to. Berlin based musician Bernd Friedmann started his musical endeavours recording on a tape deck in 1979, taking him on a forty year exploration of sound with no end in sight. Like many of his peers he got involved in music by launching band projects. Not soon after picking up the drums in the early 80s he began incorporating electronics into his drum set up. It was a time when musical machines became much more commonplace and opened up vast realms of possibilities for artists. It didn’t take him long until he replaced himself with rhythm machines and focused on synthesizers, sequencing and production. Bernd has been very prolific as a solo artist and musical collaborator, most notably his seventeen year studio and on-stage partnership with Jaki Liebezeit, former drummer of legendary avant-garde rock group CAN. Under the Drome moniker Friedmann pursued rhythm based dub sounds. Hinterland stems from the 1993 album The Final Corporate Colonization Of The Unconscious released on Wigwam and licensed to Ninja Tone (predecessor of Ninja Tune). This alienating, breathtaking sound collage is the perfect synergy of ambient, triphop and dub textures, electronics capable of expanding the imagination to a nonplace. With Drome and the conceptually similar Nonplace Urban Field Friedmann tried to locate this nonplace, an attempt to preserve the real thing, opposing the commodification of music (and society as a whole) that increasingly defined the 80s.

We have been observing your world from a distance for some time under the guise of a series of transmissions known as ‘mixtapes’ as a method of research, via digital interaction with your intriguing species. Our observations of your world have been both confusing and, more recently, concerning. Thus we present to you, Galactic Service Broadcasting. A musical initiative that aims to raise credits in support of some of the most vital humanitarian services and organisations. Any and all credits raised as a result of this broadcast will be donated to charities supporting the front line workers of the organisation known as the National Health Service." - Viscera Music.
We, at 44,100Hz Towers was kindly offered to support this charity compilation and our pick up is an old friend,  English producer Kieran Holden with his " It's Happening In Mionnesota".
Slow piece of futuristic techno house which seems laid back as can be but still with a cheeky hint of a groove worming its way through the piece. Clanging tablas and the tambre of what seems like a thousand different types of drums and other percussion gie this track an almost entirely live feel with analogue synths which makes it wonky and weird with electric effects attacking the cochlea without warning. This sends shivers about what is really happening in Minnesota. Once again beautiful record from Kieran and wonderful action from Viscera crew. Get in.
