The song itself refers to the excitement of a new night at the end of an exhausting, hot working day, in the days when workplaces usually did not have air-conditioning.

If taken to extreme, however, the excitement of night life can lead onto chaos and regret - possibly worse and this is alluded to in the bridge section and the reprise at the end of the song.

Written by David C Payne in December 1972, this version is a new recording of a song played live on many occasions mainly during the 1970's.

It was recorded by Adelaide recording band Crunchtime Music in 2019 and released on their album "Alive and Kicking" in 2020.

The introduction to the piece is in 6/4 time and the choruses are in alternating bars of 7/4 and 8/4.

The bridge is in 4/4 time and features the sounds of a bass guitar, played in a style reminiscent of the early 1970's period.

In particular, the bass part in this recording is dedicated to a bass player I worked with many years ago - the bass phrases I have used in this new bridge section is how I recall he used to play way back then.

This new recording of "Bloody Farewell" has been created in Avid Sibelius, with the production carried out using Avid ProTools.

I used an old Roland SH-3A synthesizer to get some of the effects around the bridge section.

This version does not include the vocal lines (but I intend to record them over the next few weeks), which are as follows (for anyone who might be interested):

Leave their children to pleasures of the night

Second chorus (in alternating 7/4 and 8/4 bars) and also the reprise after the bridge
And the darkness hides everything it sees
In its feathered shroud nothing can succeed
Never rendered this cloak of impotence
Never soiled by the strength of innocence.
