"Chiaroscuro", italian for "light-dark" [...] is the use of strong contrasts between light and dark, usually bold contrasts affecting a whole composition.
I chose the word "chiaroscuro" as I find this contrast appropriate to my mood of this period of my life.

For this patch I recorded bass into Morphagene and then effected it with a bit of Mimeophon. Then I added a lead line made with ARP2600 clone into Norns Pedalboard with Phaser and Resonator, then plugged into a preamp and then to QPAS for further effects. 
The bass plays harmonics A-D-A (7-7-5 frets) and G-D-G (5-5-3 frets).
I used G double harmonic scale (G-Ab-B-C-D-Eb-F#) for the lead voice.

Step 3: Record a piece of music built around the technique you focused on in Step 2.

Track notes: 

An improvisation on a Stratocaster with my modular skiff (envelope follower, ochd LFO, wasp filter, double delay, morphagene) I've been exploring the Phyrigian mode recently and thought I'd use a simple C#, A and B chord pattern to explore this. 

Inspired by two things: 1) the weird, climate change informed Spring-like weather in the middle of winter here in South Australia; 2) recently wandering the backroads of the Fleurieu Peninsula in this weather, catching distant indistinct sounds on the wind from all directions.

The Assignment: Halloween is coming up. Do your thing.
There is just one step to this project: Halloween is nearly here, so make some haunted sounds for people to play for trick-or-treaters.

I don't always enjoy the scary things, but I really enjoyed making some scary music. I jammed for about an hour on some hardware gear with this prompt in mind. Later that night, I walked around the house recording my creeky wood floors and rusty doors. Then cut for length and added some effects and edits in Live. 
While I was making these sounds, my wife Monica created this digital collage image. We enjoyed this simultaneous creative process and plan on doing it again.
