This Mixtape is a compilation of tracks produced by the participates of the 'Take it from the bird - creating music inspired by the Superb Lyrebird' workshop I lead for Unthinking / Unlearning - an online laboratory and residency, a part of the Year of Germany in Russia 2020/21 and collaboration between Klammklang label, Sound Studies and Sonic Arts (M.A.) at the Universität der Künste Berlin and Sound Art and Sound Studies (M.A.) at HSE Art and Design School, Moscow.

‘The Superb Lyrebird’ is an Australian Native bird, which is capable of mimicking natural and synthetic sounds from its natural environment — Participants created their own music sampling biorhythms and timbres from an animal sound open-access archive.

Fantastic New Age Music for Inner Peace

This is a year's worth of work. Being my second year in music production I am so happy to have this out. The original album was going to have a very linear story-like progression, but due to the process in which I make music, it was very hard to stick to such a rigid structure.

I truly love every one of the songs seen here, and whenever I listen to them, memories of the time surrounding their composition come flooding back. Each one has a personality that speaks for itself, and for all the other discarded and unfinished songs made in the process.

Thanks to everyone who listened to the unfinalized versions over and over to satisfy my need for perfection, you're as much of a part of the process as I was ♡

Wide soundscapes, nostalgic pads, heavy chords, rich textures and fragile plucked melodies, pull us to the deepest and darkest before bringing us back to the light. That’s the transformation path that Dive want to take us across all tracks. Dive, the album title, as a metaphor about leaving the surface and falling into the deepest emotions, face the unknown and therefor be forced to grow.

After his self-tittled and self-released debut album in 2019, a mixture of ambient, electronic and post rock, on this new album João Pedro Nogueira wanted to take on a new direction and focused only on ambient and electronic.

For the most of the sounds vintage analog synths were used.
