A regular contributor to the finest dance music imprints of the underground scene, Simos Tagias makes a welcome debut on Meanwhile with his 'Euphoria' EP.

Bursting onto the scene in late 2012 and early 2013 with a clutch of releases on Modu and Lynx Records, Simos Tagias has overseen a career path with a steady upwards trajectory that has since seen some 400 production credits to his name. Indeed, Clubsonica Records, Mango Alley and Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music have all played regular host to the Greek artist’s work, not to mention successful releases on Cid Inc.’s Replug and Aly & Fila’s hugely successful FSOE.

Now opening his account on GMJ & Matter’s ever-growing Meanwhile, 'Euphoria' immediately impresses as a collage of elements fly across the sonic spectrum while a clicking ambient effect and grooved percussion provide dance floor character. Building in effervescent fashion, reversed synth motifs vie with delicately delayed phrases as a plethora of spot effects swim enticingly around the listener’s head. Winding up after a dizzying breakdown, the third movement carefully combines all the elements introduced in the earlier stages through a mind-melting melange of frequencies that pitches and falls in an innovative wall of sound Phil Spector would be proud of.

'Emotion' is a high-octane offering powering forward with chest-thumping kick and immaculately syncopated percussive groove. White noise infused synth motifs soon fill the sonic spectrum as a rapid-fire 16th note bassline carries the melodic elements with ease. Full of emotion and beautifully flowing synth lines, the track reaches its musical zenith at the breakdown before hitting its stride in the second half where all elements converge in lay lines of raw power and emotion.

(10 bonus points to all of you who realised the anagram) This ongoing project is where we ask friends of the label to cast their magic over our back catalogue. And what a bumper package Volume 3 has turned out to be.

Prolific Belarusian producer, Michael A, has become a regular on Proton Music with his quartet of original EPs. The fourth of these now sees "Aura Tears" released with a pair of remixes from German and Argentinean talents.

Moritz Rausch is an artist rising to global prominence under his Rauschhaus production alter-ego. As at home behind the decks in front of global club audiences across his native Germany as he is in the studio sculpting dance floor gems, Rauschhaus is a name that carries a certain cachet. A multi-instrumentalist with mastery over the gamut of underground dance genres from deep and electro house to techno and tech house, Rauschhaus has found his music allied to a host of blue-chip imprints since an early debut for Electro Superstar in 2010. A regular on the likes of Stil Vor Talent, Parquet and Steyoyoke, November 2016's "Escape Game" for the latter showcased a musical vignette of the highest order while remixes of Solemn Eye, Soul Button and Terry Grant have been notable additions on the label. Making his Proton Music debut, the Rauschhaus remix of "Ciklus One" is a wonderfully crafted affair that builds through an elegant arpeggio sequence that ripples into life accompanied by sublime counterpoint motifs and chord progressions. Backed by a strong rhythmic framework and ticking percussive cadence, Rauschhaus makes clever use of Michael A's original components reinterpreting and reinvigorating them in a wonderful new direction.

From the foothills of the Sierras Chicas, Cordoba resident, Ezequiel Arias, has been scaling the heights of the underground dance industry with impressive regularity. A notable DJ who had toured across Europe with performances in Budapest, Ankara and Barcelona with a string of performances across his native Argentina alongside Guy Mantzur, Darin Epsilon and Robert Babicz, Arias' production carer has been no less impressive. A 2013 debut for Balkan Connection South America, run by fellow countryman Nicholas Van Orton, quickly led to a host of appearances on a stream of impressive labels that have included Replug, Plattenbank and Sudbeat Music. Indeed, the three-track "Passenger" EP for the latter saw Arias making his debut on the Hernan Cattaneo led label to considerable critical acclaim. Now debuting on Proton Music, the Ezequiel Arias remix is a delightful trip through shimmering chord progressions and intelligently worked motifs that are an intelligent and cleverly worked reimagining of Michael A's original parts. Backed a dominant kick and hypnotic, off-beat percussive groove, the Ezequiel Arias remix is a smooth and joyous affair.

At a time when progressive music continues to flourish so too does Dmitry Molosh. As one of the movements brightest stars, the Belarus based artist has continued to dominate the scenes landscape. A string of Beatport chart hits along with live play from Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Guy J and Replug's own Cid Inc., have made him one of the genre's trendiest artists. In addition to forging strong ties with Sudbeat Music and Guy Mantzur's Plattenbank Records, Dmitry has grown into one of Replug's primary artists, most recently remixing Navar's 'You Find' in spectacular fashion. Now returning to the label amidst much anticipation, Dmitry presents his latest artist showcase entitled 'Detektor', alongside a remix from Orsen.

Comprised of three tracks it's the peak time sensibility of the title cut which gets the EP underway. Rhythmically charged, it's chunky low end and percussive cadence unite for a gargantuan swing heavy framework. A storyboard of squelchy synths, dulcet overlays and vocal fragments make for an exhilarating first act. As the break commences the narrative shifts with a tonal top line adding further fuel to the rhythmic fire, before timely modulation and a wave of drum fills sparks a brilliant drop.

Already a favourite of Guy J, the second selection 'Only U' showcases a deeper side of Dmitry's repertoire. Charming atmospheres and emotive shades descend over warm, punchy beats and afro inspired drums. Remarkably fluid, it's emotive appeal grows during the second act, as a poignant lead theme complements the tonal creativities, soothing the senses while advancing the narrative, eventually reaching an elegant finale.

Rounding out the three originals is 'Sacra' which sees the Belarus based artist returning to his pure progressive roots. Dmitry's penchant for warm, contoured grooves is what makes this such a dance floor gem. Deep, rolling and with a bevy of momentum it anchors the tight rhythmic core and pleasant hooks perfectly. Smooth yet euphoric, vibrant stabs add an epic flair, perfectly foreshadowing a timeless, emotionally rich lead theme which bridges the gap to immaculate elevation.

The lone interpretation of 'Sacra' is provided by Replug artist and label boss Dan Baseley aka Orsen. The UK born, Austria based producer got the summer season underway with his critically acclaimed 'Driftwood' EP. Coming courtesy of Replug, the three track offering showcased Orsen's ever expanding sonic palate, earning praise from all corners of the electronic community, including Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, while once again holding a lofty position in Beatport's Progressive House charts. Now returning to the label for just his second remix this year, Orsen rounds the release out with a free flowing rendition of 'Sacra'. The nine minute journey proves to be a master class in dramatic storyboarding, as acidic pulses and astral aesthetics flood your pleasure centres, eventually uniting in colourful sonic comet. Reaching an apex as the second act unfolds, an airier  take on the lead theme takes you a step closer to the cosmos, before one final rush elevates the piece to an energized yet ethereal finale.

With the 'Detektor' showcase Dmitry has added an important new chapter to his story, one which maintains his main room appeal while forging a deeper blueprint with originality and emotion. An artist in constant evolution, Dmitry once again finds himself at the forefront of the progressive movement.

Returning for its eighth outing, Meanwhile co-owner, Matter, makes his solo debut for the label via the unique musical triptych of "Amanita".

From his Melbourne home, Matty Doyle has generated a tsunami of success through his Matter production moniker. Able to point to a release portfolio with over 400 production credits to his name, such esteemed imprints as Balance, Anjunadeep, BeatFreak Recordings and Proton Music have all played host to his much sought-after music.

Now creating a new narrative for his unrivalled talents within his co-owned Meanwhile label alongside fellow countryman, GMJ, "Amanita" is redolent in trademark production features that have seen Matter in such high demand. A smooth blend of rolling percussive groove, heavy beat and cavernous bassline propel the track forward with unrelenting pace as a filtered arpeggio adds to the aural melange. A glorious synth lead enters the fray at the mid-point breakdown before a rousing wall of sound marks a club-friendly zenith before the track builds once more with its star-studded cast of musical characters.

The heavy beat and wite-noise washes of "Hikikomori" provide a weighty anchor, allowing an immaculately programmed bassline groove to weave its path between four-to-the-floor rhythm and offbeat hi-hat shuffle. A heavily delayed synth line adds a touch of class as it ripples across the seven-minute piece with ease, providing subtle introspection and emotive layers in abundance. The result is a head-shaking groover that is sure to the take dancefloors by storm into 2021.

A pulsating, running bassline immediately characterises "Wormhole" as it dynamically develops courtesy of an intelligently placed melodic variation that provokes a spine-tingling emotion in the listener. An array of percussive shakers and chest-thumping kick create a spellbinding sonic palette, while a free-flowing synth line drenched in reverb and delay adds to the emotion playing off the filtered and now staccato bassline phrase. Creating a flawlessly executed progressive house anthem, Matter has once again demonstrated why his production work draws such high praise from fans and peers alike.

Alex's Meanwhile remixes of GMJ & Matter’s 'Gauntlet' were a notable highlight alongside a stellar 2020 and now with his inimitable style and flair, his remix of 'The Path' builds on the deep undulating groove of the original while building a new bassline component that bristles with intent, emotion and dancefloor prowess. Using the central arpeggiated motif of the track, richly textured pads provide new melodic direction as white-noise washes crash against the rhythmic bedrock in pulsating waves. The resultant interpretation finds O’Rion at his consummate best with a flawless mix of technique and precision.

Hailing from a long line of talented Dutch producers, Alex O’Rion is one of the brightest stars to recently emerge on Hernan Cattaneo’s SUDBEAT label. He started to experiment with music at 14 yrs old, inspired by Sasha, Nick Warren and John Digweed. Although his first appearance was in the trance scene, Alex soon found out that deep progressive music was his passion.

With 150 releases on beatport on labels such as Sudbeat, Hope, and Cid Inc's Replug, he has seen support from Hernán Cattáneo, Nick Warren, Guy J, Cid Inc, Eelke Kleijn, Guy Mantzur, and Quivver, amongst many others.

2019 saw him playing for Sudbeat’s Showcase in Amsterdam’s Westergasfabriek plus notable appearances at Nature One Festival in Germany, Ministry Of Sound in London and Es Paradis in Ibiza.

Melbourne’s GMJ (Gavin Martin) and Matter (Matty Doyle) joined forces in late 2015, a triggered recognition and magnetism for their shared perspectives and love for deep atmospheric music leading to the formation of the GMJ & Matter collaboration.
