An ode to the endangered Western Screech Owls who make their homes in the ancient old growth forests of Southern Vancouver Island, unceded Pacheedaht and Ditidaht territory, currently facing massive campaigns of deforestation brutally enforced by the RCMP and the colonial government of so called British Columbia. Track dedicated to all the heroes on the blockades putting their bodies on the line to defend these sacred places.

Main owl sample recorded by Royann Petrell at Eden Camp May 21. Other samples (Swainson's and Varied Thrushes) recorded by me at Eden Camp and Eden Grove in early June 2021. Marbled Murrelet recorded by Thomas Sander, 1987 and the female alarm call of the Northern Goshawk recorded by Geoffrey Keller, 1995.

A note on the dream that inspired this song:

heaven and hell resides within
I was sleeping when I saw them
a nightmare chased out of my mind by utopia
the bad came before the good as it typically does in this universe
fear, control, possession, chaos, and death during a desperate search for answers to unknowns
I awake to heat, and sweat like blood, and panic forces the wind from my mouth like a heavy weight on my chest
taking a piece of turquoise in my right I banish the horror and allow myself to drift with trust
the crystal brings me to a garden where all play with love and kindness
Everyone is connected at once together in a definite and almost tangible way where you know that they know, and it is by means of touch but it can be from a great distance
Pure emotion breaks my heart open, and from it music spills out as a vibration from this body
I am lifted into the sky by the very sound itself and everyone is affected
I stole this drop back to earth from what did overflow

"Overflow"

Paponeireau (Shawn Fisher) debuts their first song Mantis Moon in this collaboration with hypnotic visual artist, Lizzy Mikulich. Breathe deep and release into the meditative sounds of rain, symphonic violins, shamanic drums, wind chimes, bells, and an enchanting Wiccan prayer. Paponeireau hopes to challenge the typical cliches of new age meditation music through the use of groove, symphony, and sound experimentation. They strive to channel the creativity of actual dreams into transportive music with the intention of achieving a sense of other worlds within the listener.

This is the first song Fisher has produced as the solo artist, Paponeireau. Mantis Moon started as a jam tucked away deep in the forest of Paradise Valley, Winlaw, BC. This is where Fisher plays music with guitarist and Zen Buddhist monk, John Wittmayer and musical secret sauce maker, Brandon Hindley. All of the audio contained in this track was recorded using real instruments and natural elements.

Mantis Moon

This meditative music was recorded live using violin, 512 Hz Awakening Bell, rain stick, voice and drum.

The tone of the awakening bell resonates with an area of our brain that helps control stress. Through this resonance we experience a lightness and sense of well-being. The result is an increased sense of happiness, greater mental clarity and a wave of biochemical responses that destroy bacteria, free radicals and viruses.

When the Awakening Bell is sounded, the listener naturally enters a theta state during which nitric oxide is spiked in the brain stem. Nitric oxide is often called the "molecule of light" and is what causes fireflies to light up on warm summer evenings. The 512 Hz vibration of the Awakening Bell lights up the brain stem and awakens one's inner light, which is naturally relaxing. When we relax, life becomes clearer and we "just know" as we enter a special zone. 

This frequency is associated with the heart chakra. It also helps the listener enter a theta state which is characterized by deep calm and enhances learning, memory, dreams, creativity and imagination.
