i've never seen a velvet ant, i'm always stuck with the hornets, i've seen a european hornet in my backyard, i always see yellowjackets, mud daubers and braconid wasps

fun fact, velvet ants are actually flightless wasps (semi flightless anyways, only the females have wings)

This is a brillian recording. They're uncommon where I'm from, but I would have recognized the sound. This is actually a wingless wasp.

Slowed this down to 20 bpm and removed overtones and flux and it sounds like it's constantly yelling!

Found a large Velvet Ant walking on my driveway today, and couldn't help but notice the odd sounds this insect was making. The recording is of the insect crawling around inside a cardboard box, before I let it go back into my backyard. The Velvet Ant, also known as the "Cow Killer" is actually not an ant, but a wasp. I recorded this with 2 DPA 4060 Lav's and Sound Devices 702 recorder at 24bit-96Khz.

As we arrive at this moment in time, upon reflection we are always in a state of perpetual motion, and consequently perpetual decay. jabberwock arrives to this moment firmly looking backwards with a distinct flavour of avant-garde future sonics, dissolving holograms and entropic aesthetics, creating an immersive study in spatial decomposition. Essentially utilizing a single loop as a starting point for each piece, various methods of spatial degradation are explored, all treated with care to be evolving throughout the entire 3D sound field over time. Binaural noise, liquid granulations, mutating and decaying structures, and spectral erosion are a few examples.

This album has been designed with the specific and sole intention of deep and entrancing psychedelic immersion. A signpost pointing into the abyss of your own subconscious, preparing to open a psychoacoustic doorway of 3D sound design and hypnotic cerebral muzak to guide you further into broken realities and coalescing holophonics.
