His father, Bjarnulf, had fallen in battle years before, leaving Freyda as his son's sole support.
At the age of eight, Thorlund was already a restless, adventurous and curious child. He spent his days running through the woods, learning to hunt and listening to the legends of the gods that the elders told by the fire. But his life changed abruptly one night when the village was attacked by the warriors of Sigurd the Iron Skull, a ruthless and ambitious Viking king. Flames consumed Skjarfold as the screams of the villagers filled the air.
Freyda, with her dying breath, hid Thorlund in a small hiding place under the roots of a tree. “Survive,” she whispered to him as the footsteps of the enemies approached. From his hiding place, Thorlund watched as Sigurd drove his sword into his mother's heart. That moment etched in his soul a scar that would never heal.

There lived Helmara, a powerful witch whose legend said she controlled storms and spoke to spirits.
Helmara was tall, with white hair that cascaded like a waterfall to her knees, and eyes the color of fiery amber. Her voice had an unearthly echo, as if a thousand whispers accompanied each word. At first, she saw Thorlund as a burden, but observing the ferocity in his eyes, she decided to give him a chance.
“If you wish to live under my roof, you will work like a man, not a boy,” he told him. From that day on, Thorlund rose before dawn to chop wood, hunt, and gather herbs in the most dangerous places in the forest. Helmara taught him to read runes, interpret wind signs, and brew potions that could heal or destroy. Though the witch was harsh, she also protected him like a mother, even if she would never admit it.

Under the guidance of Helmara and Ragnir, Thorlund learned to fight with swords, throw axes with deadly accuracy, and use magic to enhance his strength and reflexes. But he never forgot the face of Sigurd the Iron Skull or the promise he had made to himself to avenge his mother and his village.

Chapter IV: The Rise of the Cursed Warrior
Synopsis: Blade of Stars
Under the tutelage of Helmara and Ragnir, Thorlund became a feared and respected warrior. His skill with weapons was unmatched, and his mastery of magic made him almost superhuman. He had learned to summon the power of storms, to sense his enemies even in the dark, and to use his rage as a weapon.
But inside him, the oath of vengeance never faded. Sigurd the Iron Skull remained the face that haunted his dreams. Now, with his body forged by years of training and his spirit tempered by magic, he was ready to fulfill his promise.
One night, as Helmara watched the sky, she read in the stars a dark omen.
“Your journey will take you to the threshold of death, Thorlund,” she warned him. “But also to glory. The choice will be yours.”
When Thorlund turned 25, Helmara gave him his final gift: a sword forged from black steel with runes engraved on the blade. The blade seemed to absorb light, and a faint bluish glow emanated from the engraved runes.
“This sword doesn't just cut flesh; it cuts the souls of those who stand in your way,” Helmara said, her tone solemn. “I call it Drengrsvard, the sword of the reborn. Its power will be your greatest ally, but also a burden. Use it wisely.”
Thorlund took the sword in his hands. As he touched it, he felt a strange warmth run up his arm, as if the sword recognized its new wielder. At that moment, he knew his fate was sealed.
Ragnir, ever the pragmatist, handed him a map of the northern lands.
“Sigurd's stronghold is here, in the mountains of Gjallarhorn. But you cannot face him alone. You need allies.”
Thus began the ascent of Thorlund, the Reborn, toward his destiny. On his journey, he faced mythical beasts, conquered armies of enemies and won the loyalty of other Viking warriors who, inspired by his cause, joined him.

Chapter V: The Brotherhood of the Reborn
Synopsis: Brothers in the Storm
Thorlund had learned, throughout his battles and journeys, that a warrior is nothing without allies. Though he was strong and skilled, he understood that his mission would require more than his strength and Drengrsvard's magic. As he advanced towards Gjallarhorn, his journey led him to meet those who would soon become his most loyal companions. Thus was born the Brotherhood of the Reborn, a group united by loyalty, respect and a common goal.
The Encounter with Sigrún the Swift:

In a clearing in the forest, Thorlund heard the unmistakable whizz of an arrow as it grazed past his face and embedded itself in a nearby tree. Before he could react, a woman descended with the grace of an eagle from the high branches.
“Your sword may cut souls, but my arrows do not miss,” Sigrún said, with a confident smile.
Thorlund raised his hands in a sign of peace. “I seek allies, not enemies. If those arrows are as fast as you say they are, they could be useful in my mission.”
She appraised the man with her gray eyes, seeing more than just a warrior. “You helped my people when no one else would. My loyalty is yours, Thorlund, but don't expect me to make it easy for you.”
From that moment on, Sigrún became the eyes of the group, a deadly specter that no one saw coming until it was too late.
Bjorn the Unbreakable: The Living Wall:

In a small sacked settlement, Thorlund found a man fighting alone against a group of mercenaries. It was Bjorn, who with his shield and spear was keeping his attackers at bay.
Thorlund, impressed by their resistance, intervened, his sword slicing through the air and knocking down the last of the mercenaries. Bjorn, gasping, looked up at him and nodded in thanks.
“Why do you keep fighting, when there is no one left to protect?” asked Thorlund.
“Because honor is not abandoned,” Bjorn replied. “And because a warrior does not run away.”
That day, Bjorn found in Thorlund a leader worthy of his loyalty, and Thorlund found in Bjorn an unwavering friend.
Eirik the Fierce: The Human Storm:

In a makeshift marketplace, Thorlund heard shouts and sounds of chaos. As he approached, he saw Eirik, a berserker who, in a trance of rage, was confronting a group of bandits who were trying to loot the place.
When it was all over, Eirik collapsed, exhausted but victorious. Thorlund helped him up and saw the humanity in his eyes, despite his ferocity.
“What do you seek, berserker?” asked Thorlund.
“A purpose,” Eirik answered, his voice deep. “Something more than the fury of battle.”
Thorlund held out his hand. “Then walk with me. We will find your purpose together.”
Ivar the Cunning: The Shadow in the Shadows:

In an abandoned fortress, Thorlund discovered a man in chains, convicted of espionage. He was Ivar, a brilliant strategist who had been betrayed by those he served.
“Why should I trust you?” asked Thorlund.
Ivar smiled slyly. “Because I am more useful free than dead. And because, if you give me a chance, I can help you win this war before it begins.”
Thorlund cut the chains with Drengrsvard. “Prove yourself worthy, and I will not regret it.”
From then on, Ivar proved invaluable, plotting routes, setting up ambushes, and making sure they always had the upper hand.

With his four companions, Thorlund forged a brotherhood like no other. Each brought something unique to the group, but what united them was not only their skill in combat, but the loyalty they had to their leader.

The atmosphere, despite the recent alliance, was charged with tension and mystery. The wolves rested vigilantly, their eyes glowing in the darkness, while the human group regained strength.
As night fell deep and the whisper of the wind rustled through the trees, Thorlund, exhausted, fell into a deep sleep. But this was no ordinary sleep. As he crossed into the dream realm, he was greeted by an imposing figure: Helmara, his foster mother and the witch who had shaped his destiny.
Helmara's Vision:
In his dream, Thorlund appeared in a vast mist-shrouded void, with a purple sky and lightning illuminating indistinct figures in the distance. There stood Helmara, wrapped in a black robe with runes that glowed with a golden radiance. Her eyes burned like liquid amber, and her voice echoed like an echo in the void.
"Child of rebirth, ” Helmara began. “You have overcome many trials, but what awaits you will test not only your strength, but your soul as well.”
Thorlund bowed his head in respect. “Guide me, mother, what shall I do?”
"In the northern lands, beyond the frozen mountains of Helskorn, lies the valley of wandering souls, ” Helmara explained. "There lies an enchanted ring, forged by the gods and bathed in the blood of demons. Its wearer gains unmatched power, capable of matching Sigurd himself. But this ring will not be easily claimed. It is protected by evil spirits, guardians of a power that does not belong to mortals."
The Challenge of Magic:
Helmara raised a hand, and a series of images appeared before Thorlund: a dark gorge filled with tortured souls, an ancient temple with runes that moved as if alive, and a giant spirit wreathed in fire guarding the ring. "These trials are not overcome by brute strength alone, ” Helmara continued. "You must use the magic I taught you. Learn to manipulate the terrain, to summon the essence of the runes, and to confront evil in its own domain."
Helmara raised her staff, and a shard of light descended toward Thorlund. "This vision is both a warning and a blessing. You will carry with you a fragment of my power, but it will be your wits that will decide if you survive."
Before disappearing, Helmara bowed to Thorlund, her eyes full of pride. "Remember, my son: you are not alone. Your brotherhood is your strength, but this challenge will be your personal test. The magic you ignored until now will be your ally. It is time to accept it."
The Awakening
Thorlund awoke startled, with Helmara's words still echoing in his mind. The Drengrsvard sword glowed faintly at his side, as if it had been touched by Helmara's power in the dream. The wolves watched him silently, and the rest of his companions were beginning to awaken.
With a solemn expression, Thorlund gathered his group around the campfire. "I have had a vision. A new challenge awaits us, but this time it will not only be with sword and shield. It will be with magic, and I will need your help."
Sigrún arched an eyebrow. "Magic? I thought that was Helmara's thing - why now?"
Thorlund stood up, his voice steady. "Because it's the only way to defeat Sigurd. And because this is bigger than us. In the mountains of Helskorn there awaits us a power we need. But the road will be the hardest we have ever faced."
Eirik roared, slamming his axe against the ground. "If battle awaits us, let it come! There is no evil this group cannot crush."
Ivar, ever cunning, muttered, "But this time, we must think like Helmara. Magic, traps, trickery. If we are to survive, we must outwit our enemies."
Toward Helskorn:
The group began to prepare for their journey north. Fenrir's wolves, led by Skoll, offered to guide them through the icy paths. As they walked, Thorlund practiced the runic magic that Helmara had shown him in dreams, beginning to summon small barriers and manipulating the wind in his favor.
