H.M.Proton - Going Deep 14

A reconstruction of my NYE afterhour set in Kater Kiosk on Monday morning, 4th of January 2016. 

The floor wasn't really crowded. But it was filled with the right people. These kind of people that make you realize that it's much more satisfying to select tunes for 25 listeners than pleasing 500 raveheads. Due to the intimate atmosphere this set got more melancholic than expected. All in all it's a mix like twothousandfifteen – with a lot of darkness, a bit of light and a new beginning at the end. Hopefully.

Dear Old Battlefield

Written by me a long time ago, this is a song about who I really am. The lyrics are influenced by teachers I have known - Douglas Harding and Mahendranath. Andreas Ludwig plays the bamboo flutes, all the rest played and sung by me.

Face to Space

I wrote, recorded and mixed this song in one creative afternoon. Never did anything so fast. Just voices and bass - all played and sung by me.

Sunrise

This is a mix of a traditional Xhosa song with lyrics and a melody of mine. I sing all the voices.

The lyrics are by the 13th century Sufi mystic and poet Mevlānā Jalāl ad-Dīn Muḥammad Rūmī. Translated from the Persian by William C. Chittick.
The music is a "remix" of a 17th century baroque piece composed Angelo Michele Bartolotti. Matthew Cellan Jones played the full piece on baroque guitar which I recorded, then cut up and remixed to give this result. I created a melody for the vocal whilst remixing and managed (more or less) to fit the poem to it with some slight changes. Still looking for anyone who might like to try singing harmonies to it...

We are the light of God, we are God's mirror.
