I am a composer, producer and DJ based in Sheffield, UK.  I specialise in multi-media collaborations with poets, writers and visual artists. 
My spoken word collaborations have included music to accompany readings by poets Chris Jones (‘At the End of the Road, A River’ - 2006), Matt Black (‘The Cooling Towers’ Farewell’ – 2008), Linda Lee Welch (‘Flossie Paper Doll’ – 2008), Susan Sandercock (‘Birds in Three Dimensions’ -2009), Noel Williams and others: Exploding Poetry – on-site multimedia installation, Bank Street Arts Centre, Sheffield (2010).
In 2011 I composed music for ‘Goat Boy and Other Journeys’ with poets Fay Musselwhite and Linda Lee Welch and artist and film-maker Susannah Gent. I also produced and performed the music for a live multi-media performance as part of the Nuits des Musees at the Toulouse Lautrec museum in Albi, France.


Two friends from Portugal João Negreiros - singer/writer, and Júlio Fachada - musician, got together to make something new in their lives: covers from songs they both liked, mixed with spoken word poems by João Negreiros. Most of the poems are from his prize winning book "luto lento" (OFF FLIP - Brasil 2009).

The Sheaf Poetry Festival returns to Sheffield in November 2020.

closer to ground to hear is an installation at Bank Street Arts, Sheffield (1-24 November), comprising audio works and poem-texts by Mark Goodwin and images by Nikki Clayton, with sound design by Brian Lewis. A merging of Tarkovsky’s Zone (as depicted in his film ‘Stalker’) with a portion of the rurban rim of north-east Sheffield, this collaborative work will be reconfigured during the residency, with Goodwin reconstituting a number of the poems and Lewis adding new mixes to the multi-channel soundscape each week.

Recordings from the live installation will be posted on this site between 1-24 November (recorded and edited by Brian Lewis). 

West North East is the debut full-length collection by Matthew Clegg (published by Longbarrow Press in September 2013). Recordings of poems and sequences from the collection will be uploaded to this site during 2013. 

The Footing is an anthology of specially commissioned poems on the theme of walking, with contributions from Angelina Ayers, James Caruth, Mark Goodwin, Rob Hindle, Andrew Hirst, Chris Jones and Fay Musselwhite. City, country and coast (and the spaces in between) are the settings for these journeys; here, the act of walking is, by turns, exploratory, destructive, restorative, defiant, contemplative and devotional. The Footing will be published by Longbarrow Press in September 2013.
