" “H.I.M. Teachings Dub” is an astounding dub track featuring Drew Keys’ hammering keyboard line married brilliantly with the bottom melody of the trombone. Keys’ contribution on this track is critical as it is a wholly new and unique keyboard sound that is rarely, if ever, used in reggae recordings.  The sound provides an Eastern vibe to the track which is more reminiscent of a style used in hip-hop recordings by producers like RZA or Bobby Digital – a real nice element of flair that makes this track truly memorable. Martin Campbell & Alien Dread - Cosmic Dub Clash

A selection of classic 'Shaka Style' Power Play Extended 12"s from the late 70s/early 80s period, mainly using the steppers drum pattern Shaka is known for championing. These 12"s either segue directly into a dub or the part 2 deejay cut - this extended mix is known in Reggae as a 'Discomix' as this made them ideal to be played out at 'Discotheques' at the time. I have let most of the tracks play out to showcase the dubs or deejay cuts. I refer to these tracks as 'Power Play' as I will often play them out at sessions at to get the crowd going, and I believe Shaka did too.

During this time of lockdown in the UK I have become increasingly grateful and appreciative of the small things in life which are so often overlooked in times of prosperity. So I deliberately chose tracks which celebrate the joy of everyday life, with an emphasis on uplifting vocals and subject matter; I hope this mix helps you to stay positive in these troubled and uncertain times. Music is medicine!
