The night had drawn to a close and there was little noise left in the small basement. The reverb echoed loudly from the machine in the corner but it was not a sweet sound or tone but bitter and dull. The band had left the room some time ago but the crowd remained loyally attached to the stage - hoping and praying for the return of their heroes. Little did they in fact know that this was the end of times, the last dance and a farewell outing. Soon they would leave but not just yet, not now. 

The Golden Filter continue to delight and inspire, a duo with a sense of purpose and a formidable swagger. Optimo did very well indeed to snap them up and their music demonstrates supreme quality.

Seven Knives is a contemporary band from St-Petersburg, Russia consisting of Bøgi/Rem/Shato (vocals, guitars/synths/drums). Their songs are about the time and that things, which are lost (being last, but not least) in it, when this time is organised by the 7-days week. Sacrosanct melodies are made of 7 notes, whatever major or minor they are, the matter is that, you don't need them all. Both days and notes are inevitable. 7 Knives is like the third seven of your longed for jackpot, when you get your gold, and say out loud to the unavoidable world flowing your "hellooooooooo".

@roam-recordings kicks off 2018 with a new release from its boss @jpsoul. After a big year of releases on labels such as @neinrecords, @emerald-and-doreen-rec, @logicalrecords, @meant, and Whiskey Disco JP Soul returns to Roam with two new dance floor originals that form the Bacchanal EP. The title track ‘Bacchanal’ is an Italo-Disco infused jam with an energetic synth groove backing a decadent vocal. The second original, ‘Might as Well’, is a low slung gritty chugger with a bit of funk and a lot of attitude.
The Bacchanal EP comes with a top notch cast of outstanding remixers. Up first is @hardwaybros aka Sean Johnston of A Love from Outer Space who adds a dark edge to ‘Bacchanal’ with a grinding heavy energy perfect for a big system. Italian legend @inflagranti brings a playful electro touch to ‘Bacchanal’ that can slip in easily to a variety of sets. Rounding out the EP is Argentinian artist @thomassjackson who delivers a wild west psychedelic guitar laden version of ‘Might as Well’.
All five tracks come together to form a unique and versatile EP that follows the Roam mantra - somewhere between disco and techno...a little left of center and always for the dance floor.

KUMP is delighted to release the first EP by HLM38 , the naughty half of duo Ricco and member of the Notte Brigante crew from Lyon. The three original tracks, a mix of ethnic looting and industrial racket in slow motion, feel like steel wrapped in Turkish delight. Front de cadeaux’s take on “Illicite Cong” is reminiscent of an erotic rave flavoured with Oriental spices. Last but not least, Kris Baha slices up “Exit” like a tablier de sapeur (local Lyonnais dish) served on a julienne of  syncopated samples and noisy beats.

With an arsenal of stellar music releases already under his belt, Ponty Mython serves up the delicious “Pink Tango” EP for Futureboogie.

Having carved out a reputation for some of the finest cosmic house productions on labels like Omena, Dirt Crew and Quintessentials, the Lithuanian based producer delivers three new cuts on this release, which comes ably backed by a remix from Italian producer Fabrizio Mammarella.

On the title track, Alex Pletnev (Ponty Mython), goes for breezy synths and wandering melodies over a chugging mechanical beat and an FM style bassline, whilst Fabrizio Mammarella (Bear Funk/Les Disques De La Mort) toughens things up slightly on his remix, plunging into a darker sound aesthetic for a great reinterpretation of the original.

On “Time Spiral” an unhurried groove is laced with layer upon layer of meditative synths and percussive rolls for a fat dose of eighties soundtrack vibes, whilst EP closer, “Appreciate It While It's Not Too Late”, settles down to a head-nodding pace with funky bass and key melodies and live drum samples for a real earworm of a track.

Initially described as “superlative 25th century electronic exotica” by Cowboy Rhythmbox themselves, the fourth EP from Phantasy’s in-house trouble and hitmakers received continued support from top jocks including Dixon, Jackmaster and Marcel Dettmann. Now, it’s dynamic lead track is rejigged, expanded upon and shot through with analogue energy by two equally inventive producer pairings.

Fellow outsiders on the inside of the house of house, Israel’s finest Red Axes take the first turn, coaxing the cosmos out of the original and allowing the bewildering vocal samples to lead the way through waves of more than pleasurable cosmic tension. Soon, with the timing just right, feet to pedals and strobe to hand, the pair unleash a series of distorted guitar licks that blow dust off the stacks, even throwing in a sharp blast of their trademark surrealist vocals for extra freaky FX.

On the flip, Marvin & Guy zone out and hone in on the original’s EBM-indebted elements to contribute a trippy, wave-riding electro rework that oscillates irresistibly. Teasing listeners with a playful, almost naive synth line, the mood shimmers instead with uncompromising acid, as the pair ultimately push the modulars into strange and hypnotic territories to get lost in.

While Krautrock was a deeply unfair term coined by a war obsessed British press in the 70s, it was a term which came to be a shorthand for bands like Faust, Tangerine Dream, Cluster and Can.
These were bands desperate to escape the past and embrace the future. Well the future is here now!
Space Ritual (Named after the Hawkwind album of the same title!)captures the vibe of Cologne, Berlin and Dusseldorf throughout the 1970s while still sounding as fresh and forward thinking as ever.
Colonization by Swedish based Tross, definitely offers more than a nod to the aforementioned bands. Tight live drums a tighter bass groove which gives way to a pulsating melodic arpeggio later in the track which rattles the chest and shakes the soul.
The type of track that would not sound out of place on one of those 70s classic albums like Tago Mago or Ege Bamyasi, 'Colonization' contains a lurking groove which doesn't let up. And after all, why would you want it to?

20th Century Club. We can't help but looking back. Sometimes with rose tinted glasses, sometimes in anger.
This one takes us back to the night clubs at the end of the 80s. A bit of Chicago, a bit of Boccacio, Memories spiked and warped and distorted and molded into our fantasies and fears. Oh well... Here we go!

Also part of the 1000 Years of Solid Dudes Zillas on Acid are Phillie's finest and playfully mess with the head on this track which they are kindly giving away as a free download. 
Although it clocks in at roughly 110BPM, don't think you are getting a free ride!
Menacing and deliberate with a bassline which kicks like a mule. This is proper dancefloor fare, cheeky claps a kick drum which shakes the chest, congas and all those other 909 noises which we know and love.
The 20th Century Dub is even dirtier than the original with a synthline which carries what is already a killer dancefloor cut. Whooshy Effects give way to a 16beat filthy synth which will no doubt turn any dancefloor into a disaster area with limbs flying and kids jumping.
